    Most of the guys who would have been on the bench or platooning (Grichuk, Drury, Tellez) have been off to great starts. Jays bench is very weak. You'll see it even more when you lose guys like Teo or other big bats to the IL. Majority of the Jays lineup needs to stay healthy or else...

    Yeah I know. Nice signing. I think he can be utilized well as a reliever full time. Scotty Downs 2.0 lets hope!

    Salazar would be a great pickup to roll the dice on as a reliever. Shocked Shapiro or Atkins haven't targeted him over the last two years. Debenski I think was with Arizona. Not sure if he was released or not. Derek Holland who knows, maybe can turn into the next Scott Downs haha.

    Once you get deGrom back and add another elite starter, plus you're team with Acuna, Soto, Franco. You're definitely one of the top contenders for a title IMO.

    Still some relievers available on free agency. Sign one or two to a minor league deal and if they pitch well in Buffalo, call them up. Take a gamble on Trevor Rosenthal, Hector Santiago or Chris Devenski. I would even sign a former washed up starter and see what they could do out of the bullpen. Trevor Cahill I think could be a solid BP arm.

    Really don't need him in the rotation at all right now. Gausman, Berrios, Manoah, Stripling, Kikuchi and once Ryu gets back is more than fine. I think Pearson can be a nice weapon in the pen.

    You would think the Jays could have picked up a better 4th or 5th outfielder off free agency or via trade this offseason.

    Haha yeah agreed, he's an AJ Burnett which ain't bad and I'll take that moving forward. Jays have a great staff even if they don't have a legitimate No. 1 elite arm, but Gausman might be that guy!

    Yeah that's the hope. Given his age, he still can. Burnett posted a 4.07 ERA in 2008 with a 3.45 FIP and 5.0 WAR. Berrios even with an ERA closer to 4 can still provide that same type of value.

    Reed Johnson posted a 4.4 WAR and Cat posted a 2.6 WAR in 2006, damn! Combined for 7 WAR haha. I know sometimes they both played at the same time as well depending, but for the most part they platooned in LF. Gibby did a fantastic job utilizing them both and I can't think of a better platoon the Jays had in recent memory.

    Yeah Berrios isn't in the same class like a Verlander, Kershaw, Scherzer, de Grom, Doc, etc., though he's still a solid proven front of the rotation arm. Like I said, reminds me of AJ Burnett. He was inconsistent sometimes as well, but when he was on, he was lights out. I'm happy with Berrios giving the Jays 200 + innings every season, an ERA and FIP between 3.50-4.00 with 190-200K's. The one advantage he has is that he's still only 27, so definitely still some room to raise the bar a bit. But even if he doesn't and keeps things the status quo, he's still a quality arm for the front of this Jays rotation.

    If Berrios can replicate seasons like Burnett's 2008 over the next couple of years, I'll take that in a heartbeat. Good chance he does if he's healthy.

    Berrios has had an awful start, but it's only been 6 starts and he's a proven top MLB starter. I'm not too worried and sure he'll turn it around this season. He's not an ace like a DeGrom etc. Berrios reminds me of an AJ Burnett.

    I miss the platoon of Frank Catalanotto and Reed Johnson. They both together were utilized so well, especially in 2006.

    Difference between AA in Toronto and Atlanta. If AA left the Braves tomorrow, they're well positioned to be a top team for a sustained period. He's done a really good job in Atlanta and really happy for him! After AA left Toronto, they only had the 2016 season and then after the rebuild took place. Kind of interesting to look at the different approaches AA took with these two ball clubs. Toronto in 2015 in my opinion was a top World Series contender, just the Royals got in the way.

    Marlins in the NL East could be an interesting team as well. They have a nice young core of SP's and Jazz Chisholm looks like an exciting player. If only the organization had a better front office.

    Long term, Braves are still the best team and set up the best in that division for the next 5 or so years. Mets will give them a run for their money this season for sure and will always spend big bucks to attract top FA's. Wish DeGrom was healthy for them.

    Phillies are a poorly ran organization, even when they won the World Series in 2008. No way they contend with the Mets or Braves in that division. They have some solid pieces but can't put together a solid full roster.
