    I liked John McDonald as a super utility guy when he was here. Fan favourite and easy player to like and root for. His glove was amazing.

    They're not s***. They could easily well be 30-25 instead. But yeah closing out games, injuries and a weak bench have hurt them. Hope they can turn it around. Even if they make the Playoffs, they likely have a first round exit.

    You have to look at the player as a whole and the value they provide. I don't think neither me or Brownie are saying hitting .300 is a bad thing. It's definitely a plus. Players who just hit .300 but are below average in other areas like Eckstein exist. Same with guys who hit .220 with 30 HR's but offer nothing else like Chris Carter. Ideally, you don't want those bats in your lineup.

    Yeah I don't think the Raptors should completely blow it up and suck for 5 years. Those days weren't fun. Masai has done a good job keeping this team competitive and not awful even during this retool. Hope they can still be competitive and add when they need to. I thought the Raps could have been a middle of the pack team in the East this season, though injuries, some inconsistencies, lack of bench depth have hurt them this season.

    Was really excited when the Jays got Jose Reyes. Always wanted him back in 2006 and 2007 as a leadoff hitter here. Was decent in his first season but sucks his defense was poor and afterwards just became a dumpster fire.

    Tony Batista had one weird stance. Had a monster season in 2000 hitting 41 HR's.

    Josh Towers was my favourite pitcher when I was a kid. I know he sucked in 2006 and 2007 but in 2003 and 2005 he was solid with the Jays. I was kinda of like him as a pitcher - when I played house league, never threw gas and was never overpowering but always located and focused on control so as a pitcher tried to copy him in that respect. After Halladay went down in 2005, Towers helped anchor the Jays rotation the rest of the way: 13-12, 3.71 ERA, 3.94 FIP, 3.6 WAR. Heck in 2007, he had the guts to beam A-Rod. Definitely gotta give him props for that! Also, big thanks to Spanky for his jersey a couple of years ago!

    Yeah obviously more hits the better but like you said, depends on what type of hits they are. If they're only singles, meh. If they're HR's or doubles, different story. Someone like David Eckstein can hit .290-.300 but can be meh in a lot of other categories. You can even see studs, where they vary from season to season. One season they could .300 and then the next .260ish. Look at Jose Bautista as an example. In the end, he still provided excellent OBP skills, power numbers, so his batting average whether he hit .300 or .250 didn't make such a huge difference at the end of the day.

    Yeah obviously that .250 hitter is going to have to have a higher BB% and/or hit for more power. Like Jose Bautista in 2010 hit .260 whereas Robinson Cano hit .319 and had 50 more hits. At the end of the day, Bautista posted 6.5 WAR and Cano 6.4 WAR, so not much of a difference. That .250 hitter obviously needs to contribute in a lot of other ways like power, high OBP, strong defense etc.

    I think the Jays preferred giving Edwin 3-4 years over Bautista at the time. Edwin was 3 years younger and coming off a way better season in 2016.

    I always thought it was a good idea just to go year-to-year with Bautista for like $20-25M, maybe with a club option attached after every season. Kind of like David Ortiz with Boston. Going 4-5 years on Bautista after 2016 would have been extremely foolish.

    Yeah in the NBA, you have to draft a franchise cornerstone or two from the draft and they need to have an immediate impact within 1-2 years. You can't stockpile prospects/young players that easily like in baseball. You can build a solid roster foundation and then when the time is right, strike and trade for a superstar. Kind of like how the Raptors when they got Kawhi. Raps were always a top 3-4 team in the Conference making the 2nd or 3rd rounds but never good enough to take that next step to get by Cleveland or another top team. Heck, even with Kawhi, Raps got lucky they won a Championship that season.

    Yeah Raptors will bleed fans if they're horrible for 5 years in a row. You'll have fans watching on TV occasionally, but nobody will be going to the games unless it's a big team in town. Raptors fanbase aren't like the Leafs.

    Yeah the NBA Playoffs are a lot different than the MLB Postseason. Tough to sneak into one of the last spots and expect to go on a deep run, whereas in baseball you just need to get in and a Wildcard team can upset anyone or go far. There is a big difference between the top 3 or 4 teams in an NBA conference vs. the bottom 3 or 4. Raptors sneaking in one of the last spots doesn't do anything IMO. They'll get knocked out R1 by a top team in 4 or 5 games.

    Yeah one thing I didn't understand why the Jays rushed to sign Morales right away and give him three years. Tied their hands so early in the offseason when they could have been more patient for a DH/1B type bat.

    Yeah I didn't mind Wilner. His show was entertaining and did enjoy seeing him putting those angry callers in their place. He was condescending at times and even if you were to make a rational argument or point, he would try to still look like he was always correct. He did come off as a Blue Jays apologist at times, which is understandable working on the Fan 590. Otherwise he had a good show and did enjoy tuning in every so often.

    Yeah Bautista missed out big. He was asking for 5 years and $125M correct?

    Yeah sad they couldn't work out a deal. Edwin still was a productive hitter from 2017-2019.

    Yeah hope Luka and Kyrie can play well together. Should be a fun team to watch down the stretch for sure, but we always see in basketball how some star players don't play well alongside each other.

    Yeah one of the bad FA signings made by Shapiro/Atkins. Think they jumped the gun, outbid themselves and got scared because they were going to lose EE that offseason. There was no need to give Morales three years.

    Also, is there really a big difference between a .300 hitter vs. someone who hits .240-.250? It's like an extra 5 or so hits per month/per 100AB. Obviously, you want that .250 hitter contributing in other areas like getting on-base at a high clip, hit for power, good baserunner, good defensively etc.
