  1. Richards was great all year, and even stepped up big time when we needed a starter. But after the injury, he wasn't as good. Easily worth the risk of 2.4MM in my opinion.
  2. Here are the arbitration estimates for the Blue Jays next season, and my picks for who to keep/release. Adam Cimber (5.156): $3.2MM - Release Trevor Richards (5.084): $2.4MM - Keep Danny Jansen (5.050): $5.2MM - Keep Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (4.157): $20.4MM - Keep Tim Mayza (4.156): $3.3MM - Keep Cavan Biggio (4.129): $3.7MM - Keep Erik Swanson (4.096): $2.7MM - Keep Jordan Romano (4.051): $7.7MM - Keep Genesis Cabrera (4.011): $1.4MM - Keep Santiago Espinal (3.149): $2.5MM - Keep Daulton Varsho (3.128): $5.5MM - Keep Alejandro Kirk (3.047): $2.6MM - Keep Nate Pearson (3.005): $800K - Keep
  3. 1) Players who choke in the final two months of the season and post-season (Chapman and Merrified), likely won't be coming back. 2) Varsho is not as bad as everyone thinks. He is gonna break out next year. 3) We need a coach who can stand up to the players. That means putting in a pinch runner for Vladdy sometimes and putting in pinch hitters for struggling regulars (Chapman). 4) Upper management needs to be hands off the managers. Let them do their job without interference. They are the ones taking the heat. 5) Baseball isn't a battle of spreadsheets. Emotion can't be measured. Pulling a starter who is on fire, after three innings makes it seem like ChatGPT is running the team. 6) No reason Biggio can't take 2B next year and Schneider can't take 3B. 7) Merrifield, Chapman, Belt and Ryu are gone next year. Frees up some decent cash for a big hitter.
  4. You have to admire Jose Berrios. If that was me, I'd be sitting on the bench pouting like a three-year-old. But Berrios is a team player. Love that guy.
  5. I just put him in the optional group because of that 5.73 ERA. I know he's been good lately. Espinal has a .650 OPS. But yeah, he'll probably be there as we need someone who can play short other than Bichette. And good point about the wildcard series. If we know we're not gonna start Kikuchi or Ryu, they could be options to leave off. We could go with Francis if we have a starter meltdown, thus keeping Kikuchi fresh for the next series.
  6. Sorry I wasn't clear. I meant the obvious guys to cut are Eden and Parsons
  7. Currently, with expanded rosters, the Blue Jays have 28 players in the lineup. We need to shrink it down to 26 games for the post-season. That means we need to cut two guys: AUTOMATIC:-21- These are the guys that are definitely on the roster: Chris Bassitt Jose Berrios Kevin Gausman Yusei Kikuchi Genesis Cabrera Yimi Garcia Jordan Hicks Tim Mayza Jordan Romano Erik Swanson Alejandro Kirk Tyler Heineman Bo Bichette Cavan Biggio Matt Chapman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Whit Merrifield Kevin Kiermaier George Springer Daulton Varsho Brandon Belt That leaves us with five additional guys to choose from the following: (currently active) OPTIONAL: Wes Parsons Hyun-Jin Ryu Chad Green Trevor Richards Davis Schneider Santiago Espinal Wes Parsons The obvious choices here are Wes Parsons and Cam Eden. But, there's also a couple of guys that could come up: Jay Jackson Bowden Francis Adam Cimber Zach Pop Nathan Lukes Ernie Clement Spencer Horwitz Personally, I would add Jay Jackson and Bowden Francis to the roster, and remove Ryu and Espinal.
  8. Looking ahead to the off-season, we have the following players on expiring contracts. Qualifying Offers have been calculated to be around 20.5 MM 1) Hyun-Jin Ryu He's been decent when not injured, but given his age, his injury history, and his inconsistency, I don't think he's worth $20 MM Recommendation: No QO. Offer 2/25. 2) Matt Chapman In May, this would have been a no-brainer, but Chapman has hit under .550 OPS since August 1st. Recommendation: No QO. No offer. 3) Kevin Keiermaier Great defense. Palatable offense. Great clubhouse guy. But not worth $20MM Recommendation: No QO: Offer 3/23 4) Whit Merrifield. We have an $18 MM mutual option, which we'll decline and a QO doesn't make sense now. Whit is alright, but we have younger, cheaper guys who deserve more PT (Biggio). He's also not the best utility guy, as he plays 2B and a bad LF, and not much else. Recommendation: No QO: No offer.
  9. Jays should send the Guardians some kind of fruit basket.
  10. You know I prefer the term biological father. Come on! We've had this talk before.
  11. In, but I am slowly handing over control to my son. Will provide heavy oversight.
  12. Oh God. Not Chapman. We can't afford an injury to him. He's been batting slightly over .500 OPS for August. Who can we possibly get to replace that kind of firepower. It's not like we have some stud just sitting on the bench waiting for a chance.
  13. Exactly. Pretty cheap considering his production this year, and he had a pretty good history. But it didn't work out, and he seemed lost at the plate. Easy to say it was 'useless' in hindsight, after he went 3/50 or whatever.
  14. OK, I have a few guys I could move in BORED: Hitters Chas Mccormick Christian Walker Stone Garrett Starters Miles Mikolas Ryan Yarbrough Relievers Kyle Finnegan Dylan Floro Mostly looking for picks for this year. Also prospects or young pitchers.
  15. And we traded Tony to get that jackass. A model citizen. R.I.P.
  16. So, bullpen guys that are decent (in no particular order) 1 Erik Swanson: yes, he had a bad game, but he's still very solid. 2 Genesis Cabrera. Pretty similar to Hicks (lots of K, too many walks), but decent enough. 3 Jay Jackson: Small sample size, but the guy has been lights out. 4 Tim Mayza. ERA 1.22, 37 IP. Enough said. 5 Trevor Richards: the workhorse. All of those guys could very well outperform Hicks over the next two months. We're overpaying because he throws fast. Great for potential, but we only have him for two months. Others: 6) Chad Green (???) 7) Yimi Garcia: I don't trust Yimi, but can pretty much ensure they aren't gonna send him down. 8 Jordan Romano: yes, he is out for two weeks. The difference between Romano/Swanson over a two-week period isn't going to be that huge. 9) Nate Pearson: he's been bad lately. Needs to figure his s*** out in the minors. 10) One of our starters will likely be moved to long relief as I don't think we're gonna stick with 6 starters that long. Are these two guys (Robberse, Kloffenstein) studs? No. But, year after year, when the Blue Jays have an SP injury or meltdown, and we need a starter, we have very little in the way of depth options. We need some AAAA pitchers in the system, and some of those guys are gonna turn into SP4 or SP5, which we desperately need.
  17. This trade is f*cking terrible. We didn't need another bullpen guy. Bullpen is fine. Giving up two potential starters, for a two-months rental guy is assinine. Then, factor in, that Hicks isn't actually all that good (career BB/9 over 5), and this trade is just ludicrously bad. This is the kind of trade you make when you've been told that you're going to lose your job if you don't make the playoffs.
  18. Kid is on fire again. Hopefully, they have finally figured out that his bat really shouldn't be out of the lineup. Maybe Belt can play DH when Jansen is C, and Jansen can be DH when Kirk is C so everyone gets to play. And maybe Vladdie can sit out a little more often with his .607 OPS in the last 30 days.
  19. As someone who has tried to trade with Hurl many times, I can vouch for him. He often replies to trade offers within the same MLB season.
  20. Race Kirk vs Vogelbach vs Salvador. Who wins?
  21. Something is wrong. Not a single Red Sox hitter has swung and missed at a pitch - almost like they know whenever the off-speed is coming. Either something is seriously wrong with Gausman or Boston is cheating (again).
  22. This is weird watching a Blue Jays Yankees game, and not hear OUR commentators gush about the Yankees. It's the second inning, and I haven't even heard the name Derek Jeter once. What's going on? We need Buck!
  23. Teoscar blowing the game for the Mariners, with his brutal defense. Kind of glad we got rid of him. He was tough to watch.
  24. I could use a big bat (even if old) at either 1B or OF, if someone wants to cash one in.
