  1. Given that Oliver is retiring, it wouldn't surprise me that he wants a bullpen piece.
  2. A lot of it will relate to development. We still don't turn raw draftees into major leaguers.
  3. I wouldnt call the Rays figure after 2007 to be a failure. They have a policy on not promoting till they're ripe. Wish we did the same sometimes.
  4. I'm just afraid that he's needed at short for 100 games.
  5. Both are lefty bats though.
  6. I don't think they could have done otherwise.
  7. That really sucks, I know you're more of a baseball fan than most.
  8. It made sense. I assume it will only be for one year if the team doesn't turn it up a notch.
  9. No he would net something. He has a bat.
  10. I think I read somewhere that Murph retired so the brain trust decided to clean house. This suggests the opposite. And I agree this has to be the last chance.
  11. I know we're talking about the hitting coach. My point is if Gibbons wants someone that he's more "familiar" with then I'm afraid it's someone like him. Gibbons 2.0 reminds me of Buck Martinez' term as manager. I don't know if it's what he wants or AA pushed for but it seems to involve little development, and very little practice. I think a manager's role (along with his coaches) is quite important. I have little faith in the team as long as he's in charge. Name-calling someone because they disagree with your opinion is beneath you. In my opinion the manager should be about the 6-10th most important person in uniform.
  12. The manager - he just sat back on the bench and scratched his forehead most of the game.
  13. I just want someone with a philosophy who's effective and does more than sit and scratch.
  14. I agreeCecil could be a candidate but how many more tries does Morrow get? He can't last.
  15. So we will have a coach from the Royals system. Great. GMs normally pick some of the coaches so I don't buy that it wasn't his guy. At least if Gibby picks his guy then it will speed up his demise.
  16. How can you blame a bench coach?
  17. Toronto is just not a true baseball city, it's all about the Leafs here...unfortunately. If the Leaf fans supported the Jays we'd rival the Yankees
  18. Toronto has to be the city with the smallest baseball IQ. I remember people suggesting Joe Carter should play 3b in the world series days. The suggestion was how hard can it be.
  19. That dude is just nuts.
  20. Yeah but the amount of fans per capita is probably lowest in Toronto.
  21. Gibbons was in double a and didn't expect a serious role. He's not a manager. The managers job is to set the tone. Scioscia did that. He learned from Tommy Lasorda who was known to bit engaged. You know maybe that's what I like about Goins. He dives for balls, he really goes for it. That's character.
  22. We only need one more pitcher.
  23. But what about Murph? You think that was a real retirement?
  24. Yep, that was the end of development.
