Back in the Beeston days, the Jays used to structure contracts a little different (than other teams) for tax and other reasons. I think Jack Morris had "conditions" built into his contract to circumvent a potential divorce. The condition was something like showing up for team photos or something stupidly easy to reach. I'm sure something similar could be set up for any free agents or long term contract to turn it into a non-Canadian income basis. But contracts like that take a lot of work and both sides have to be working on it.
