    I might take a break this season. Maybe just follow Bowden Francis' starts. The rest of this team isn't worth watching once Vladdy goes to Boston or wherever.

    I think I'd rather go for Tanner Scott than Hoffman if Hoffman wants to start. We need a lefty for the pen anyway.

    i think we've got a shot at some one-year pillow type contracts but it's too expensive right now to put in a truly competitive long-term type bid.

    Because it looked like we were on a good trajectory back then. We're on a bad one now and costs of signing in Canada have gone through the roof. There's no reason to believe we're close to signing anybody. I think we won't have a chance until the Tavares court case on bonus taxation gets settled.

    Be straight on this, Spanky, why do you think we should believe we're "in" on all these guys when we never get any of them?

    You either sign a guy or you don't. There's no such thing as a "finalist".

    The term "finalist" is empty and meaningless. The proof is in the doing. If you tell me Bregman is just not worth it or even if management said that he wasn't the type of player they were looking for, then fine but pulling a fake about being in on everyone is just insulting.

    and that's where the marketing guys are right (for business purposes). Let's face it, the members of this board are not so casual.

    JPR we had super high expectations but he was a snake oil salesman. Ash was just a poor shadow of Gillick. Shapiro will go down as all talk and no results. Well, at least he prettied up the Dome.

    the other assessments I saw on this guy suggested his defense was real at ss. Maybe his arm can be worked on a bit and his speed can be "coached".

    Back in the Beeston days, the Jays used to structure contracts a little different (than other teams) for tax and other reasons. I think Jack Morris had "conditions" built into his contract to circumvent a potential divorce. The condition was something like showing up for team photos or something stupidly easy to reach. I'm sure something similar could be set up for any free agents or long term contract to turn it into a non-Canadian income basis. But contracts like that take a lot of work and both sides have to be working on it.
