  1. every spring there's a break out prospect. Schneider and/or Barger would be great for me.
  2. Okay, it's minor league contract. I'm okay with that.
  3. Has to be a minor league contract. Otherwise, WHY?????
  4. A minor league flyer is a fine move and makes sense when we don't have a real 3b.
  5. Rogers will charge as much as they can, it's simple economics mixed with government pressure.
  6. The team is more profitable to Rogers. If people put the squeeze on Rogers, they will pony up.
  7. what's more funny is folks who talk about not wanting to spend money. IT'S NOT YOUR MONEY!!!!!! We as fans invest time, pay for tickets and watch television with commercials.
  8. Gotta agree with that. In spring, I'd probably rather see if he can keep to the pitch clock and not get messed up.
  9. Pretty much my thoughts too. So some type of 1+ opt outs makes a ton of sense if it's the Jays.
  10. Chapman still has some compensation attached to him. Don't know if that would have an impact on somebody else offering a pillow contract.
  11. I'm not basing it on recency, rather I'm basing it on things like Vlad without somebody big batting behind him may not improve. Varsho while great defensively just doesn't seem to hit consistently, Springer may be breaking down and Kirk's build may get in the way of his production. The main thing is I don't thing Vlad can be the biggest hitter, he needs somebody else to lead. So without any changes, I'm expecting similar results to prior year. If we had the huge bat at DH that we all wanted I would have very high expectations for the year.
  12. Unfortunately I have to agree with you. This team may be very versatile but it is in dire need of a bat. The idea that 4 of the bats will improve is an insult to the fan base. Right now I see this as an 83-87 win team.
  13. I'd agree if Schneider was being prepped for 3b. I think he could be useful there.
  14. There may be a trade but what signing is available?
  15. No you could try out a bunch of guys like Barger until somebody decent comes cheap.
  16. Some kind of Manny/Springer trade and then maybe sign a dh. Could work.
  17. Why is Wes Parsons still on the 40 or even in the system?
  18. Wonder if Rogers is trying to do something big in the Japanese market? Edward Rogers wouldn't be doing this without a real big reason. I might be getting ahead of myself.
  19. Can't say I look around town for 6'6" buff asian dudes. But I did see Dave Winfield and Lou Piniella in Yorkville when they were big and nobody was getting in their faces.
  20. One other thing that Ohtani might find value: he can probably live in anonymity here in Toronto. Privacy seems to be important. Watching ESPN MLB news right now. They're talking about what a mistake it would be to sign in Toronto because of lack of exposure to US tv rights. I think that could be a positive for us.
  21. Stangstag, I think we're looking at this the same way. The Dodgers were told they were out so they figured: "F'it, we might as well spill now".
  22. I would say you are probably correct. He told the Dodgers they're out. Now everyone assumes that leaves him with us. Hopefully that's true.
  23. It's what will make the decision. They probably discussed a rehab plan and whoever comes up with the best plan will be a HUGE part of the decision.
  24. This ends with who has the best rehab plan for Ohtani and in whom he has the most faith to execute it. I think he wants to keep it silent for that reason alone.
  25. I don't know why this hasn't been mentioned but: 1. Ohtani is recovering from TJ. 2. He will want to rehab in the best way possible. 3. Signing with a team that can bring him back will have an impact 4. He visited Dunedin where all of this gets done. Based on all this I could see a contract with a 3rd year opt out being a fit.
