  1. How exactly is Dickey a sketchy veteran? Up until last year he had three solid seasons to his belt. Same thing with Johnson. No one could have predicted his fall. His only drawback was injury concerns and that didn't play a huge part. Sorry Mr. Armchair GM, but you can't second guess like that.
  2. I keep hearing something about terrorist ties, but honestly IDGAF about him.
  3. I think we all would have done that, but at what cost? If AA is seriously considering Goins as a 2B, one of these two things happened a.) AA turned into derp b.) AA viewed the trade market as too demanding. I assume any 2B you would want to acquire would be decent. Decent 2B will be hard to come by, and slightly expensive (outside of Strohenz)
  4. Well what do you suggest King I know we all would like to get Ackley or Franklin but if we can't do that, then what do you want? Trade Stroman for Walker?
  5. Yup, very odd that they don't have any locations outside of Ontario. Was it the issue of getting players to come on board all across? If I recall last year they had at least 3 players at each stop, with different ones at each location. Maybe this one they'll have all those players in each location. Nice to see Rasmus and Gose be there again.
  6. I guess this is a subtle way of asking for an extension...a fair market value one.
  7. Yes, completely ignore the trade off of higher AAV/short years
  8. Which is fine - I have no problem with the Ohka signing since it makes sense and has more of a purpose for teaching Jimmy than expecting value from Ohka. I just find it odd that they will be encouraging knuckleball use in the organization
  9. Why do we have to go all the way down the pipeline to do that? Is it a really good idea to teach a guy in single A how to catch a knuckleball, and if Thole gets injured, we rush him up and expose an unfinished product to the bigs? Isn't this exactly why we got Thole AND that other Canadian dude? The back-up to the back-up?
  10. It not a good or bad idea at all, it's just pretty odd. First off, by increasing the use of the knuckleball, does that mean they are encouraging players to expand their repertoire to include it? I doubt it, since I don't think the arm-action of normal pitchers is suitable for knuckleballs. It defeats the purpose to have a pitcher have a normal repertoire and then add a knuckleball to it. Or do they mean that they are going to encourage pitchers to go dedicate themselves to the knuckleball? Well I don't see how that is going to work. There has to be a lot to happen before a young pitcher would resort to that. You would have to blow your arm or just become plain ineffective at pitching. And even then, you just don't become a knuckleballer. It takes years and years. Why would a young pitcher dedicate that much time when they still think they can be effective as a normal pitcher? I don't see any of the 18-27 year olds resorting to a knuckleball. Sure, if you're a 32 year old journeyman, by all means, but is it really worth the emphasis? And a 3rd point - having more knuckleball pitchers means you will need competent catchers at all levels. Again, you can't just teach that. And what happens when you are a developing knuckleballer but you have someone with the talent level of JP catching you? Pretty discouraging.
  11. here are his ratings: http://mlb-pro.com/lgreports/players/player_19373.html scouting report from 4 years ago: http://baseball.lohudblogs.com/2009/06/10/mlb-draft-moran-goes-in-7th-round/ Said he threw mid 80s (could be low 90s now) with a funky deliver. His #'s look better than scout's opinions. Good command.
  12. Shi Davidi ‏@ShiDavidi 1m Last season at triple-A Tacoma, Brian Moran was 2-5 with a 3.45 ERA in 48 games, 85Ks in 62.2 IP. #BlueJays
  13. So does anyone know any scouting reports or #'s ever since Ohka tinkered with the knuckleball?
  14. we acquired stud brian moran
  15. David Ortiz is a rarity, a once in a life-time player that blossoms into a dangerous slugger late in his career What about Pujols? Are we going to fret and cry everytime we pass a player up to the 13th round, just in case he becomes Pujols?
  16. 'Take a chance' is a good way to gloss over the fact that we would have to be sending players of quality to Seattle to replace Adam Lind with another Adam Lind.
  17. Smoak had similar or worse stats against lefties when compared to Lind.
  18. Really now? You guys would take Smoak over Lind? Smoak was a top 15 prospect in baseball but he's freaking 27 already. His window to break out is getting small. Why exactly should we trade pieces for a guy that is nearly similar (but inferior) to Lind? For what? Control? I don't know how his numbers would look like in the RC (please provide an overlay if you can) but the cost to acquire him for such a minute upgrade is not smart.
  19. Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal 2m Just saw David Price's agent, Bo McKinnis, in lobby. Asked if Price would consider extension with #Mariners. Said no. MORE Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal 1m Asked McKinnis if Price would consider extensions with other teams. Said yes. Asked which clubs. He declined to answer. BUUUUURN. Guess that +$200m signing of Cano isn't encouraging anyone else to hop on the Mariner bandwagon.
  20. On the derp scale, Towers is quickly catching up to Amaro.
  21. Well when I think of a 4th outfielder, I don't look at the guy strictly for defense. Rajai is OK in that regard. Thing is, Rajai can hit and steal, and he's an excellent option off the bench. That alone saves us another roster spot since he can do a lot late in the game. If I had to choose between a GG-calibre 4th outfielder that can't hit and steal bases and an average 4th outfielder that can hit and steal, I'll take the latter.
  22. Well looking at what Peralta got, Cruz knows his PED suspension won't affect him.
  23. Hutchison + other B crap + full salary for Lee do eet?
  24. Rajai's best blue jay moment: http://wapc.mlb.com/tor/play/?c_id=tor&content_id=23840187&partnerId=aw-7639805193538691666-996
  25. Is it really selling high? Santos did come back with impressive numbers but he still had a shortened season. But of course that's assuming you don't feel he can handle the rigors of a full, +60 IP season. If he gave away Jannsen I think that would be selling high.
