    Its not unreasonable. Assuming 1 year linear progression would put him as a full time regular in 2019, with a possible callup in 2018, outside chance of 2017 as an extra pen arm in September.

    I don't think he feels hurt.... just wants to get some of that cash it turns out he left on the hindsight table. That's how sports used to be, and still are to a decent degree. You play your best years for far less than your value because youre young, then get paid way more than your value when you're a free agent because now you're a proven veteran, but you still have a few really good years left before taking a headlong dive off the cliff. Problem is, Jose got to the party way later than the typical player and the cliff is far closer.

    Very likely yes, just stating there are no absolutes. There are many fans who would atually want Jose to be resigned at 5/150 too just because of the very same optics and fuzzy feelings that bat flip HR gave them, yet retaining him at that number would be completely stupid. Trading him now for anything less than a massive overpay would be equally as stupid.

    Players don't have loyalty except to the club who writes them the biggest check and offers them the best chance, in their own opinion, to win. No player owes it to the club to resign at a discount, and no club owes players anything other than the money thye agreed to pay them. Should Bautista be approached about waiving his no trade clause because the Jays were offered a deal they would lunatics to turn down... that's part of business. He would be free to feel insulted and maybe would impact clubhouse chemistry, but that's why the FO has their jobs, they have to judge whether that's worth the risk. If Washington offered Giolito and Turner, Bautista would be in the office having a conversation before the phone disconnected.

    TODAY, 10:00am: The Giants are still in “active talks” with San Diego regarding Cashner, Morosi tweets, so evidently the market for his services remains wide open. YESTERDAY, 8:05pm: Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports (via Twitter) that clubs eyeing Cashner wanted to see him pitch one more time before deciding whether to meet the Padres’ asking price. Cashner got off to a rocky start when he walked Jose Bautista and gave up a two-run homer to Josh Donaldson, but he recovered quite well, finishing the evening with three runs allowed on four hits and three walks with six strikeouts in six innings.
