Jays won't be paying his full remaining salary this season, if at all, and he's a free agent after this season. Combine this with the Grilli trade and the Jays are probably no higher in payroll than they were before. -

i think what he's getting at is that if the overall team talent isn't good enough to win this year, then it's probably not going to be good enough next year and beyond, so spending big on a JD extension doesn't make much sense, and if you're not extending him it makes more sense to deal him before next season

We thought nobody would take Vernon Wells also. It can be done, but I think he also has a no trade clause that he would have to waive. Jays would probably have to pay a big chunk of his remaining deal -

That's pretty accurate IMO. But regardless I'd be looking to move Tulo by almost any means necessay. Not sure this team can take that dead weight contract for an oft injured sub par bat and surely declining glove for three more seasons after this -
