    From some guy on twitter ... "Just saw the Nolan Perry injury, just awful stuff. Hoping the diagnosis isn’t bad, and he stayed on his feet after the ball hit him, but it looked like the ball caught him flush on the right side of the head. Have to imagine he’ll be in concussion protocol, hoping for the best."

    If you look at last season's trade deadline... it was closers with control who netted the best returns in terms of top prospects. Teams generally dont move top 100 prospects for rentals anymore. But at the same time, Atkins has been pretty good at netting quality roster guys from other teams that aren't highly rated. For the closers thing, I'm not sure that Varland would have the same value as Mason Miller did given Miller is on another planet with his skills and track record, but yeah... its worth exploring. From a purely morbid curiosity standpoint I'd also be curious as to how many fans would flip out if they traded Varland and couldnt dump Hoffman. That vitriol would be very entertaining.

    Yes. Will be nice to get some data on his stuff from Buffalo. 4 seam, splitter, slider guy unlesss so ething has changed. Found and interview from him last year he did while in Vancouver. Tells why he turned down the Dodgers who drafted him in 2023.     Maybe this year. But the Mets haven't made a WS appearance since 2015. Thats one in favour of the Jays

    Ties him up with guarantees for his min and arb years, 2 FA years and will be 30 at the end. Great deal for Cinci, probably not the best deal for the player given the new CBA looming but 105m is hard to turn down. Still gets a crack at FA at 31.

    None of that is being argued except that there's no difference between Straw and Varsho, when it takes all of 5 seconds to see there is. If your argument is that playing Straw vs Varsho for the rest of the season makes little difference to the record the Jays will have at the end if the season and of course getting something in return for Varsho is better than letting him walk for nothing.. thats a different conversation. But to say there's no difference between them as players is just wrong.

    Correct sir. Within a 10 minute walk from my house. Former home of the Rookie affiliate of the Diamondbacks (Lethbridge Black Diamonds) back when the Pioneer league still had Canadian teams. My wife's boss has billets for the team every year so they get a bunch of free tickets all season. Wife doesnt really care for baseball but she goes for the walk and the sun.

    99% of prospects suck. It's easier to bet on failure. Ditto Bieber, it's easier to bet on failure after multiple surgeries. People were cautiously optimistic as the downside risk for the price vs the upside potential for the same price was comfortable. Everything in baseball is a calculated risk This isnt some revolutionary thing you've suddenly discovered and need to explain. When you don't quite get the basics of the draft and therefore equate a high school kid being drafted lower than his draft ranking as some kind of failure in the Jays scouting that everyone else sees and equate it to another player that dropped like... 4 places and still hasnt developed into a star player (but is still playing), its hard to take any of your insights seriously. How's Tork doing? Kjerstad? Lacy? Even Meyer up until this season was a complete donut hole.

    Hes a good kid. Played against my Lethbridge Bulls the past 2 years and was clearly better than the rest of the league, which is mostly Div2 kids from the states and some Canadians mixed in. Prick hit nearly .400 last season

    Or it's because the MLB draft is very difficult to predict, especially for high school kids and signability. And most prosepcts fail spectacularly. You just love making stuff up to suit your biases.

    Biggio was never a truly exciting prospect. He was intriguing with a weird carrying skill of a good eye amd taking walks, but not exciting. Zimmer was exciting. Marisnick had a good start to minor league career too and ended up carving out a decent MLB career as a back-up. DeJong i never followed so wont speak to him. Point is, theres not a single 6 week stretch in any of those players minor league careers that you can point to and say "this guy wont be X" Your own examples pretty much argue that exact point.

    Youre so full of hot air its ridiculous. You can find 6 weeks of dominace by Sanchez this season. You can find 6 weeks of dogshit too. So, in your view which 6 weeks explains the player?

    Theres about 20 points of wRC+ between them, and thats with Varsho slumping with the stick There's a massive difference between the two offensively

    Straw in CF everyday is just a cheaper and younger version of Gimenez at SS. Both excellent defenders, both not good enough with the bat. 1 of those positions in the everyday lineup would be okay, but not both. Its had to hapoen sporadically anyways with Varsho's injuries but its definitely not a long-term thing

    Drafted the best prep catching prospect in teh draft too. They must be thinking they have to trade Kirk

    Looks like 2 fliers from HS, round 19 and 20 but a junior flyer in round 18 also in Jake McCoy McCoy was ranked just outside the top 150 amd some think he could have been seen as the best LHP in the draft, except he had TJ surgery in Feb so he's been out all year. He was set to transfer schools so maybe the Jays can make him change his mind

    He was assigned to Vancouver. He fits the mold of the types of players Atkins likes. Line drive hitter with good contact tools, walks more than he strikes out (for now) and athletic. He has a cannon for an arm since he pitched in college so him behind the plate, if he grades well defensively in other aspects, is pretty much just like Kirk was in his minor days, just afew years behind in age relative to Kirk and where he was which was already on the majors at 22.

    Exactly. If anything it just means a different arm is probably ready to come off the IL and they wanted to capitalize on a team whos pen is so bad adding a 0.0 war arm is an improvement
