  1. dafuk... Gurriel walked?
  2. Fine. Charlie Montoyo reminds me of the Eastern Musk Turtle.
  3. Yeah, bWAR uses actual runs given up in their calcs rather than FIP which is what Fangraphs uses. I also misspoke earlier when i said that his HRs given up were the only thing hurting him. His runners stranded rate is also pretty god-tier and unsustainable which is another reason his fWAR takes a hit. See of all the top tier pitchers, Ray has the lowest babip, highest strand rate, doesn't have the best K rate (but it's still great) or walk rate (again still pretty good), and the lowest ground ball rate. Each of those factors, since they get normalized to a degree with fWAR calcs, take him down ever so slightly but bWAR doesnt care about that.
  4. He just gives up too many HRs, that's pretty much his only problem when it comes to fWAR.
  5. Which turtle species? I'll then decide if it's worthy.
  6. He had a hot July, nothing really indicating he's going to suddenly break out. His August was putrid.
  7. Reminds me of the scene in Moneyball where he tells Art Howe he can't play Pena at 1st anymore.
  8. This is Grichuk's reminder that he needs to have a blistering September to make up for the last 3 months of garbage. It will be worth it.
  9. Wonder what the rule would be if the starter for a team in a game that was going to be continued later was traded to that other team, and was called out of the bullpen for his new team when they did the makeup game. Would he be in the boxscore as playing on both teams for the same game?
  10. Good, because Ray is outpitching Matz by leaps and bounds, Matz is just having one super lucky month with stranding runners and HR suppression - both really far out of line with his career norms. His fielding independent numbers are pretty unimpressive. Ray is an unlucky May from being the clear Cy Young frontrunner in the AL. that's not to say I would be averse to re-signing Matz either, he's a solid #4/5, but he's not close to Ray's talent.
  11. Before I continue... can I confirm that you are not, in fact, saying that Matz is having a better August than Ray?
  12. Just a note on Robbie Ray - Ray set a new MLB record for the most strikeouts through the first 1,000 innings of a pitcher's career (1,241), overtaking the previous high of 1,222 that belonged to Yu Darvish. This guy is getting more expensive to re-sign by the day.
  13. 80 grade hair. Last 2 starts he's struck out 17 per 9 and averaging 12 K per 9 on the season at AAA. Yeah, i'd say he might be due for a look. Came up through the Rays system and he was the centerpiece of the Cruz trade.
  14. Yeah, he was definitely projecting a bit there
  15. He’s such a weird guy to watch, The fastball and curve are both very high spinning offerings that get swings and misses and you can just see that he’s one adjustment away from being f***ing legit. The problem is nobody on earth knows what that adjustment needs to be.
  16. Hope Vlad goes on a tear to close out the season. Dude can carry a team for weeks with his bat
  17. Ray is definitely getting paid, and quite honestly I hope the Jays are the ones to do it.
  18. Vlad has the three hardest balls in the game so far, and of the three, the weakest was a groundout that had the same exit velocity as Mountcastle’s HR. Ray had 20 swinging strikes.
  19. Nah, they're closed up tight with COVID, just working.
  20. That was a beautiful thing. Ray made that dude look really bad
  21. It's all good. Springer will get it back on the 1st pitch if it's in the zone. Almost...
  22. With Dickerson and Dyson starting (both lefties against the RH starter) there's no room for Gurriel in the OF with Springer DHing. Looks like Chuck is putting Dickerson and Gurriel into a LF platoon situation.
  23. How so? Theyre 1 game better than the jays and have virtually the same scenario, just with 1 less team to catch. yes, I would agree the Mariner's making it is more likely than the Jays making it simply because they're already ahead, but either team making it is unlikely.
