  1. Current numbers suggest it’s about 1 in 7 kids. That’s not 25%.
  2. Unless its a pathological hatred, Grant wins. The Red Sox hate from him is hotter than 1000 suns.
  3. Feels like a Fangraphs article will be coming shortly about last nights game. That was insane to watch
  4. Interesting fact, if Beasley throws the rest of the game with a Jays win, he will get a save.
  5. Nice gift from Schneider to put all the lefty pinch hitters in against their lefty.
  6. Anyone want to take a shot at the math on how likely it is to score 11 runs after there are 2 outs in an inning?
  7. Why even bother trying to go 2 in an 18 run game unless it’s a gapper
  8. Hey at least Tapia did this thing intentionally!
  9. I mean, i get that Zimmer's bat has been worse than total crap, but there's no denying that him in the field, especially in Fenway would not be 1000 times better than Tapia. I'd stick Zim in CF, hit him 9th and take the L from his spot on offense rather than watching the ineviteble clusterf*** of Tapia in CF at the worst possible moment. Or, put Teo in CF, Biggio in Left, Gurriel in RF - better offensive floor, better defense (though still not great admittedly).
  10. so what youre saying is Biggio should be hitting leadoff and Tapia should be glued to the bench and not playing CF where's hes garbage defensively? Tapia has 151 wrc+ over that interval against RHP, Biggio's is 150.
  11. I'd love to see the metrics that support Tapia hitting leadoff against.... anyone.
  12. First, getting a player for 2.5 years is not a rental. rentals are guys you pick up at the deadline who are pending Free agents at the end of that season. Adding Soto (depending on the give) could easily fall within the framework of building a sustainable winner since you have this years international signing period (or draft... isnt that deadline coming up for the PA and the league to announce if theyve reached an agreement on that??), and 2 more drafts, trade dealines, free agent signings, trades etc to build your system back up. Then of course you have the next 2.5 years to talk extension.
  13. Upton cratered in a hurry. From a near 4 WAR player in 2018 to below replacement value seemingly overnight in 2019 after that back injury. Just... done
  14. RBIs are neither a talent, nor a skill. Tbhey are the result of a hitter being his normal self when hitters get on base in fornt of him Nobody on base in fornt of you = no RBI's except your own HRs. The end.
  15. There’s no such thing as 4th spot RBIs as people tend to think of them. There would be very few 4th spot RBIs of the 3 guys in front of him never got on base enough. If Joe Carter hit 8th, he wouldn’t still be getting 100+ RBIs in a season. RBIs are not a talent or skill, they are largely the result of someone hitting with runners on base and scoring position a lot. And before you come at me with the usual BS and tired arguments about clutchness, just don’t. I really don’t care. The average mlb player hits better with runners in scoring position, so it’s entirely logical that a better hitter would also hit better with RISP. Clutch is not a skill that be called upon at will.
  16. Even more are too young to remember his name is Devon Whyte. But when the family immigrated it got spelled wrong on the form.
  17. Jays considering an All-Star game host bid for 2027 https://www.sportsnet.ca/mlb/article/blue-jays-discussing-possible-bid-for-2027-all-star-game-with-major-league-baseball/ Tidbit from the article: "Final plans aren’t yet known, but initial discussions included the outfield being redone with elevated bullpens and asymmetric walls this winter (some season-ticket subscribers were recently informed that they’ll be relocated in 2023). The rest of the lower bowl reset will start in the off-season to follow."
  18. Theres 1000 different ways to fire up the team, it doesnt necessarily need to be the manager. The managers job is to find out which way works best, then make it happen. Whether it's him doing it, a respected veteran , the bench coach or whomever.
  19. Holy f*** a 99-100 mph cutter? Strikes out the side on 10 pitches. Clase is a wizard
  20. If he's shooting for a 45 million AAV... that might be hard to get unless he gives up length. Scherzer has 43.333 and its only a 3 year deal. He and Boras are nuts if they think they're going to land a 15 year deal at 45-ish million dollars. Nobody would want that kidn of risk profile on the books for that long even though he's just 23 right now and Scherzer is 40. If he's shooting for highest AAV among position players, he'd need to get 37 million per year after his arb years are over. That's the other problem, he can't expect to get his highest AAV until after the next 2 seasons are done thanks to arbitration. Methinks whatever contract he ends up signing - it will have an opt-out clause.
  21. according to MLB draft rules, he has to have graduated high school already and be 17 within 45 days of the draft. So yeah, thta's the quebec loophole I guess. As long as he's 17 before September 2
  22. He was draft eligible at 16 ? hows that work?
  23. That's not a certainty. If I'm the team that's this close to getting a trade done and I ask permission to talk extension before the trade is finalized... Washington would be silly to say no to that since they would be able to increase the asking price as a result. It might even be a sticking point for the team that wants to trade for him that they want to at least get some preliminary talks going.
  24. Not even a career ending injury, but one that stops him from being elite and maybe just…average. I think that would be worse
  25. 34 Hr in the first round of your debut HR derby ... as a rookie. Pretty amazing
