  1. Surgery should have taken care of the spur so that shouldnt be a concern in 2023. Did he have chroinc elbow issues in years past?
  2. Springer, Varsho's arm is slightly below average. Springer's is slightly above average
  3. I think Gurriel was just something to sweeten the pot to ensure the deal got done. Sucks at D, still can't take a walk. if he doesnt regain his power stroke... what use is he? Do you think Moreno for Vasrho straight up would have been an even trade?
  4. he'll probably improve that with the shift restrictions, his walk rate is only slightly below league average. 46th percentile
  5. Just comparing Varsho to Teo in 2022. Varsho: 7.8% BB rate, 24.5% K rate, babip .269, 27 HR. wRC+106. Premium defense in CF - 4.6 fWAR Teo: 6.4% BB, 28.4% K rate, babip .335, 25 HR, wRC +129. Bonehead defense in LF - 2.4 fWAR Varsho definitely doesn't have Teo's average exit velos, but his max exit velo is still 66th percentile. Power favours Teo by a large margin. Run prevention favours Varsho by a very large margin with some pop and he's pretty much a dead pull hitter. With the shift restrictions this upcoming season, he will likely see a slight uptick in singles getting through, not to mention more of an asset on the basepaths with the new pitching restrictions.
  6. Technically, it was a panel of 3 arbitrators. 1 chosen by MLB, 1 chosen by the PA and 1 agreed on by both the PA and MLB.
  7. I'd love to see Varsho trim that K rate a bit and take a few more walks, but there's nothing really to hate in his batted ball metrics. Jays now have 3 CFs in the OF with Merrifield/Biggio as the defacto backups when they're not playing the infield.
  8. Yeah, steep price, but... if Varsho is what the Jays think he should be... Moreno would be the guy they would have to give up. Kirk would be an overpay
  9. No you're right, nobody here can. That's just what the complaint alleged so it would be a reasonable inference that his suspension is likely based on that criteria.
  10. Yes that where his alleged acts would likely fall.
  11. Meh, if you really look at all the Mets spending, all they did was re-sign their own players, replace DeGrom with Verlander and add Correa. Virtually the only thing that will actually improve the team is the Correa signing. The rest was just to maintain what he already had. There's also very little chance he spends like this every offseason. Even so, I hate owners that pretend to be poor. They're all multi-billionaires, every single one of them could spend more if they wanted to, every single franchise is worth 1 billion dollars or more and has increased in value steadily over the past 20 years. (minor nitpick, the Marlins are valued at 990 million... close enough). Every single team just got 30 million each from MLB's sale of its remaining 15-percent stake in BAMTech, a streaming technology service group, to Disney for $900 million. So any team that chose not to increase payrolls by even 10 million dollars this year, and whine about another owner spending more money, can kindly shut the f*** up.
  12. Just so everyone is aware, here's the actual wording of the definitions under MLB's Domestic Abuse and Sexual Assault policy: Domestic violence is a pattern of abusive behavior in any intimate relationship that is used by one partner to gain or maintain power and control over another intimate partner. It occurs in heterosexual and same sex relationships and impacts individuals from all economic, educational, cultural, age, gender, racial, and religious demographics. Domestic violence includes, but is not limited to, physical or sexual violence, emotional and/or psychological intimidation, verbal violence, stalking, economic control, harassment, physical intimidation, or injury. Notwithstanding this definition, a single incident of abusive behavior in any intimate relationship, or a single incident of abusive behavior involving a female member of a Player’s family who is domiciled with him, may subject a Player to discipline under this Policy. Sexual assault refers to a range of behaviors, including a completed nonconsensual sex act, an attempted nonconsensual sex act, and/or nonconsensual sexual contact. Lack of consent is inferred when a person uses force, harassment, threat of force, threat of adverse personnel or disciplinary action, or other coercion, or when the victim is asleep, incapacitated, unconscious or legally incapable of consent. Child abuse is any act or failure to act on the part of a parent or caretaker which results in death, serious physical or emotional harm, sexual abuse or exploitation of a child who is under the age of 18 or not an emancipated minor, or any act or failure to act which presents an imminent risk of such harm to such a child. This policy covers acts of child abuse, domestic violence and sexual assault (together, “Covered Act”) as defined above. All the arbitrators had to do was find even one transgression of the incredibly broad definitions above in the entire sordid affair to uphold any part of the suspension.
  13. Just saw this also. Good. The suspension was way too long and had no precedent.
  14. Just for the sake of argument: Springer's first 3 nearly complete seasons he was 3.9, 4.6 and 4.7 fWAR ..... Reynolds 3.4, 6.1, 2.9 (excluding 2020 for obvious reasons) - they're nearly identical in terms of overall value. If your contention is that Reynolds won't continue on the same arc as Springer did after those seasons, well, maybe, but Springer only averaged slightly over 3.5 fWAR (injury issues contributed for sure) per season up till now after those 3 years I mentioned.
  15. Can say that for nearly every rotation in baseball, that if one of the top 3 goes down, some random #5 who may or may not be any good takes the spot. Side note, I'm not overly high on White either, I see a 2 pitch pony that needs a changeup in the worst way.
  16. I dispute that anyone thought Ryu would return to form, most were probably pretty much done with him and were only saw Manoah Gausman and Berrios as solid, Kikuchi was still the wildcard. I would argue the pitching overall is decidedly better than last year as a whole, though not like magnitudes better.
  17. Whomever replaced whomever, really isnt all that important. Point is the starting 3 are solid AF, #4 could easily return to his #2-3 form and #5 is a wildcard with several options behind him already not to mention the minor league deals we'll still probably see before spring training.
  18. I'd still be reaaaaaly tempted to try and pry Reynolds out of Pittsburgh, even if it did cost Tiedemann+, though I'm not sure how high I would want that + to be . His addition would just put the outfield in a perfect spot, hell he could even play left field and the Jays would have 3 CF's playing the OF.
  19. Tell that to the Rays and the Chris Archer trade.
  20. I dont think his SLG is in any way reflective of playing in MiLB parks or MLB parks, his SLG sucks when he's beating balls into the ground vs getting them in the air.
  21. Sure, but all those who think projections are useless basically take the default position of " player X (in this case Kikuchi) sucked last year so he will surely suck this year, and player Y(say Miley) who was better than player X last year, must therefore also be better than player X this year"
  22. Largely, they'll be using in-house proprietary systems for their projections that we have 0 access to. You make it sound like they just grab guys and hope they are good. They're using the same systems that told them Ray was a great gamble at the right price, Matz was a good proespective option, etc etc. No, that doesnt mean that every pitcher they grab will live up to their projections. No, it's not perfect, nobody claims it is. No, just because it's not perfect doesnt mean it's useless.
  23. Left handed hitting OF would be the preferred target.
  24. Also left in 2017 for the Seattle org before not even playing pro ball from 2019-2020
  25. Well, they might be over already depending on how arbitration goes. Projections have them right around 229, threshold being 233.
