    And along with the .406 BA, Williams OBP was .553 and SLG was .786.w BA+ might be higher, but I’d gladly get hit by a limp noodle at a .400 rate even in todays lower BA environment comparatively. Williams walked 147 times that season too. He only had 185 hits in 606 PA, 456 AB. Last season Arraez had 603 PA, 547 AB. 173 hits. Basically 100 more AB, 12 fewer hits. Seems to me if he really wants to hit .400 he needs to start walking more.

    There’s no reason to keep rehashing this “should have traded Kirk” thing. You don’t even know that he was wanted in the trade so thinking the Jays simply preferred to trade Moreno instead of Kirk for the package they got is just mental gymnastics

    Ryu says he is targeting a return right after the All Star break. That’s not confirmed of course by the Jays, but…let’s say it’s true. The jays wouldn’t even need their 5th starter right away anyways since they have an off day right after the 3 game series with Arizona. They could roll 1-4 twice before needing their #5 on the 23rd of July in Seattle.

    Ideally you’d have Ryu getting through the lineup twice so probably through 4+ innings. If Kikuchi could then go even 2+, you’re only needing to use your best setup guy and then Romano for 8 and 9, maybe an extra arm to get the last out of the 7th. Would depend on matchups at that point I guess.

    Game 4 of a playoff would probably be a Kikuchi/Ryu tandem of some sort assuming Ryu comes back solid. Ryu starts with Kikuchi for the 3rd time through? Or vice versa?

    That’s kinda the rub. Seeing someone hit .400 will have that “omg this hasn’t been done since ….blah blah blah” factor. Even though simple math tells us that while hitting .400 is damn impressive and definitely worthy of admiration, praise and should be honoured as a remarkable achievement, the player shouldn’t just be elevated to MVP status if the rest of the package isn’t there. The thing is, there still enough dinosaurs around and with a .400 average being like some holy grail achievement, they’ll be sufficiently blinded by the rest of the players flaws that the MVP quite likely could go his way.

    Yeah some sort of discomfort felt after his first PA, he was pinch hit for in what would have been his second time up
