Whiffs are way up on the slider too. He probably should have been using it more in the past as well.

That's a really subtle change and may not play out over a full season. You see that kind of difference even between starts for pitchers. Maybe it stays put throughout the season and represents a different grip or something, but I'm skeptical that it's anything more than just noise at this point. There's more to his increased effectiveness than a minor change in shape in my opinion.

Same velo, same vertical and horizontal movement. There might be something different, but it's not obvious to me. It seems to be the increased use and effectiveness of the slider that is driving his success.

Pop has a weird statcast page this year. Pretty much everything is exactly the same, but he's just getting way more whiffs on the slider and throwing it more often. Maybe it's a location thing.

I just looked a couple of days ago and he was hitting like .180 with a ton of K's. It's funny how a couple of hits can change one's perspective.

Varsho looks so short in the scrum after Springer's hit. 5'10 is 2 or 3 inches generous I think!

I'm kind of shocked the Tigers didn't do a wheel play there. Jansen isn't the fleetest of foot and they could have had him.
