Agreed. It's hard to respect outlandish opinions when he has about as much information as I do. -
2011 Phillies, just absurdly talented. They all had great seasons and 4 of them had atrack record as a top pitcher in the game.

Obviously an upgrade would help, but I think Salmons is a nice complement to Ross, vetrin presentz to go with solid defense and ball handling. If I'm Ujiri, I stand pat for now. There's no obvious holes and things are clicking. See if there is a move to be made with Fields, Novak, or Hayes, that's about it. Maybe he can dump one for an expiring or something.

I don't think there's any question that Amir is a legit starting PF and with Patterson playing so well, there's not much of a need. I'm really not sure what they need, but there will be a partner if we want to pay up. Novak and Fields have extreme negative value, I'm not sure we'd have much luck moving them.

I think a good point is made about free agent compensation giving us an advantage with Jimenez. Hopefully it leads to a slightly reduced price. Ubaldo is an interesting case, putting up an excellent season despite a continued velocity drop ('only' 92 now). He put up his best K rate ever and lowered his BB rate. He's also made 30+ starts for 6 straight years, despite his troubles. Personally, I think he's durable and figured something out in the second half last year. I'd explore a 3/42 deal, as he's only 30 this month, but probably wouldn't go 4.

The unfortunate truth is that Miami or Indiana will be waiting in the second round no matter who they play. Just the way the bracket works.

That's nice. I'm still waiting for you to explain why Stroman has a 3.5 WAR floor when even Jason Parkes has him as a probable reliever (1-2 WAR).

There's a fine line between ballsy and stupid. Having Stroman ahead of Lawrie is stupid.

If I were a manager, I'd take a dominant 200 innings out of the 'pen and 2 extra bench spots over an unhittable 50 or 60 innings. It's hard for us to quantify a season like Marshall's when none of us watched baseball in that era.

If that is the case, it makes it extremely difficult to compare relief pitchers from different eras. They generally don't have much control over usage.

Any theories as to why the relief pitcher landscape has changed so much in recent years? Eckersley didn't have guys like Kenley Jansen right behind him. At first glance his perfornance seems almost as impressive, relative to his peers.

He earned a Cy Young Award for that performance. I find it so difficult to compare a season like that to what Kimbrel did. Equally impressive in some ways.
