  1. We don't even know that Drew is available for a reasonable price.
  2. Any word as to why Rene Rivera started when Grandal is healthy? I figured he and Hundley were banged up.
  3. I've won a lot of money on the Mariners in the past few years. That season where they made the horrific signing of Figgins that everyone loved, I bet all of my friends that they would still be terrible.
  4. Being the most major league ready, I'd have to go with Stilson.
  5. I feel like our front office kept JPA because they expected improvement from him and not because they were really pleased with what he had done. That's just a guess though.
  6. Yes, I'm aware how much JPA sucked. His minor league dominance justified the first couple of years, but it went too far.
  7. Trading him doesn't mean they thought he couldn't catch. He projected to strike out over 30% of the time and not walk. That's not useful anywhere.
  8. Mistakes happen, ask the Pirates and Reds. You want our FO to be more analytical and there sure as hell wasn't a statistical precursor for his 2013 season.
  9. It certainly wasn't because of Gomes, see for yourself: http://www.forums.mlb.com/n/pfx/forum.aspx?tsn=1&nav=messages&webtag=ml-bluejays&tid=86985 The only positive comments I see are gsnarls saying he's an inconsistent bench piece and me saying I liked his catcher defense (which had been criticized a lot).
  10. Nobody was shedding a tear when we dealt Gomes for Rogers, so let's not pretend now that everyone saw this coming.
  11. This won't change anything when tens of millions of dollars are on the table and teams don't seem to care about past steroid use.
  12. Knowing the A's, they'll just win 25 games in August if they are out of the playoff picture.
  13. It may be ridiculous for a team with starting pitching depth, but a couple of weeks isn't going to kill us if it helps our weakest area. The position players will be fresh to begin the year, it's the best time to experiment.
  14. If that were the case, people would still be willing to see what he's got in a couple of April starts, just like they were before ST. Happ had one of the best springs in the league last year, along with Phil Humber, Brandon Maurer, and Lucas Harrell. Mike Minor, Bartolo Colon, Homer Bailey, and Kris Medlen were amongst the worst, with some pretty putrid stats. I'm not saying Happ will be good, but history has a good lesson to teach you about overreacting to spring training.
  15. I don't think we can afford to overreact to spring training statistics with our lack of pitching depth.
  16. Give him another start and a couple in April before deciding what to do.
  17. I'm not convinced that we're out of the sweepstakes just yet. Hitting in this lineup and a good park has to be enticing on a one year bounceback deal.
  18. Watching the Cubs-A's game here, the balls are flying out. Lake with 3, Valbuena with 2, and Olt crushes one out of the stadium, all in less than 5 innings.
  19. I believe that leaves about 30 relevant players in camp with the battles being: Thole vs Kratz Sierra vs Tuiasosopo vs Kawasaki vs 8th bp arm Redmond vs Rogers vs Happ vs Jeffress vs bench (two spots)
