    Executive moves in sports are always full of half truths and posturing. That has been proven again and again throughout history. I'm not naive enough to think that it didn't happen in this case simply because it is the Blue Jays or because I like Mark Shapiro. I'm open to all possibilities, but I'll continue to stick with the most sensible and logical line of thought until other evidence presents itself.

    We're more or less on the same page here, but put yourself in Alex's shoes. You've just achieved great success, you're the third best team in a league of 30 teams. You have the organization in the best position it's been in for more than 20 years. Then you lose all of your influence and get offered a significant demotion. You have plenty of money, so a job with a nice title and no real power has little appeal. I sure as hell wouldn't stay and you're lying if you say you would. You can live in a fantasy world and pretend that Shapiro was sincere, but he knew what the answer would be. I don't care if he's a nice person and and I'm not upset about the way he handled it, but use some common sense.

    Now you're changing what you said. He hasn't been the same pitcher as a starter, so don't cherry pick your information to suit your argument. As a reliever he's been absolutely dominant. There's no getting around that fact. You are wrong.

    No it isn't. That's the whole point of WAR, it adjusts for positional strengths. Joe Blanton was better and projects to be better than Storen if you want that kind of counterargument.

    If Aaron Sanchez isn't a lights out reliever, then I don't know who is. Over the past 2 years, he is 5th in ERA behind Davis, Betances, Giles, and O'Day with a 1.67 mark. Opponents have hit a paltry .149 against him, beaten only by Wade Davis. He has walked only 2.43/9 and is also top 5 in groundballs at 66.7%. I support using him as a starter, but get your facts straight.

    Revere has had a very stable career, so it really comes down to how you weigh WAR vs WPA for relievers. I'm of the opinion that relievers are currently being overvalued (see Madson, Kimbrel deals), but that can be debated. Also, the projected 2.1 million difference in salaries has some significance. We could have possibly gotten a Joe Blanton type for those dollars.

    While the fit is obvious, I don't like this deal from a value perspective. I expected Shapiro to bring a different mentality to the team, where we didn't give up value in trades. This may well be an anomaly, but I don't like pulling the trigger on this deal right now. We aren't desperate for a reliever with closer experience and there are other options available. We're trading away a likely 2 WAR outfielder for a reliever that has exceeded 1 WAR only once in 6 full seasons and makes up to 2 million more. Does Storen really have that much value at 9 mil? Traditional $/WAR calculations say he probably has negative value, though I understand relievers are starting to be valued differently by GM's.

    Yahoo answers? Really? The guy called the brain a 'complex organicism'. Not only is it a ridiculously bad spelling error, but the brain isn't an organism at all. Do yourself a favour and get your information from more reputable sources. I explicitly pointed out that there are exceptions to the rule and that it was simply a statistical correlation.
