  1. Sounds like the Darvish trade is finished. It's Campusano and other stuff for Darvish and other stuff.
  2. Kim to the Padres is confirmed. Disappointing.
  3. A rotation of Darvish, Snell, Clevinger, Lamet, Paddack/Gore/Davies for the next 3 years has to be scary, even for the Dodgers.
  4. His worth to teams is a combination of what he got paid and where he was picked. No amount of speculation on your part will change my views on that. Maybe he ends up being a good pick, maybe a bad one, but teams valued him at best as a late first rounder. That's extremely obvious.
  5. Now the Padres are deep in talks for Darvish and perhaps Contreras as well. I don't know what to make of AJ Preller, but I certainly enjoy following along with his moves.
  6. His overall bonus was less than a million dollars away from a competitive balance A pick and he was taken with a 3rd round pick, which also narrows that gap considerably. The placement of a pick has it's own value, separate from the slot. I get what you are saying, but MLB teams unquestionably didn't value him between 11 and 20 or they would have approached his selection differently. The best proxy we have for are these trades for similarly valued picks.
  7. I edited my statement after seeing his bonus amount. The value is less than a million dollars different than a competitive balance A pick, not to mention the fact that he was taken in the third round. Regardless, we do see those picks traded in relatively minor deals from time to time. The value surely isn't as high as fans assign to them.
  8. We see teams trade competitive balance picks that are valued similarly to Wilcox in fairly minor trades.
  9. Daniel Kim who reported the Ryu news says that he thinks the Jays are the frontrunners and that Kim may be on a flight to Toronto.
  10. A single player like Lindor or Springer and a couple of relievers gets us close to 120. The front office has been pretty open about what they expect to accomplish. Unless they are misleading us then you will be wrong.
  11. That's less than I expected the Padres to give up, but still a decent haul for Tampa. Patino will probably be an ace in a couple of years and Mejia will get a chance to live up to his potential.
  12. They obviously didn't throw a number out there, but a payroll in the range of 120 million doesn't seem too outrageous. They have talked many times about adding multiple high impact players. That says to me an increase of at least 30 million.
  13. If we sign Kim, that obviously takes us out of the running for guys like LeMahieu, Lindor, and Arenado. Springer becomes a much more obvious target in that case and we would certainly remain interested in more pitching. Something like Kim, Springer, and Sugano or Tanaka would be incredible.
  14. Rangers have signed Kohei Arihara.
  15. Rum and brandy are both popular in my household.
  16. Merry Christmas to you and your family, Spanky. Stay safe.
  17. Very sure handed with a strong and accurate arm, but his range was limited as he aged.
  18. There's an equally long list of players that are more than deserving and were ignored by the writers, but no so much recently. I agree with purpose of the VC, to induct players that slipped through the cracks, but they induct too many players.
  19. It seems obvious by that post that you aren't aware how defensive statistics work on fangraphs, so I don't think it's worth my time to craft a response. My statistics are correct.
  20. I never said it was random, but just picking players whose stats match with your perceptions doesn't mean that it is bang on either. Let's just look at the gold glove winners for 1990 for a more random sample: Sandy Alomar -3 Mark McGwire 12 Harold Reynolds 20 Kelly Gruber -4 Ozzie Guillen 13 Ellis Burks -8 Ken Griffey Jr 2 Gary Pettis 4 A couple of hits, a couple of misses. Kind of what you would expect from an extremely flawed stat. Voting matches up a lot closer with the statistics today.
  21. The most likely explanation here is that the stats are not correct. I think you're giving far too much credit to defensive metrics from 30 years ago. We've only very recently learned to evaluate fielders properly most of the time, not even all of the time today.
  22. What metric are you looking at? Total Zone has him as a good defender. Looking at these old metrics is like using errors to judge fielders. Sometimes they will fit in with our preconceived notions, but in reality it's just random chance. Sometimes the eye test can fool you, but Robbie is like watching Arenado, Kiermaier, or Simmons today. You just know they are the best without looking at a stat sheet.
  23. It's difficult to notice a few pounds on your own body, let alone on someone else wearing a baggy uniform. I can't really tell to be honest.
  24. I think we should question whether his adjustments will stick after such a small sample, but we know that his huge power is real. If he can maintain a K rate around 20% then we have a very useful player on our hands.
