  1. Ryu, Stripling, and Zeuch. Just how we all drew it up.
  2. I think he was close, but had his spot stolen by Tim Mayza, who was even better.
  3. I don't expect much from Roark, but who knows. Ray probably only misses 1 or 2 starts and Zeuch has been good when called upon so we'll be fine until something more long term crops up.
  4. ZIPS does project 6.8 WAR for the next 3 seasons and it's likely that his defensive value is not properly calculated, but that's still a big overpay.
  5. The team obviously has some serious belief in him. Shapiro and Atkins mention him in their top couple of prospects every time. Everything is there except a breaking pitch. Great fastball command, big velocity separation on the change, elite groundball rates, and durability. A small adjustment on a pitch grip or different sequencing could change his outlook dramatically in a hurry.
  6. He's averaged a little over 92 in the bigs, but any improvement would help. He'll never be an ace, but he probably has a long career ahead of him.
  7. I am 6'6 230 and noticeably smaller than him. He's a very big man.
  8. It's pretty safe to say we won the Ray trade.
  9. Spring training will be a failure if Tommy Milone doesn't pitch to Thomas Milone at some point.
  10. From the Cubs. Huge deal!
  11. I guess I'll be listening to Detroit Tigers radio out at camp this summer. Extremely disappointing news.
  12. Players like Troy Tulowitzki become a hot commodity if they implement a salary floor.
  13. Still a good move for us. We basically forced them to use a roster spot.
  14. Atkins has brought up the opportunity cost for our young players on multiple occasions when discussing free agent pitching additions.
  15. Every thread needs some John Gibbons.
  16. Why? Rosenthal didn't have to take the deal.
  17. I didn't mention Acuna at all. I was saying that Bichette could still sign an extension even though he comes from wealth, as evidenced by this Tatis deal. Maybe he would value the stability in terms of staying with one team. I don't think you should write it off as a possibility.
  18. Tatis also grew up in a wealthy family, so you never know.
  19. That's a heck of a trade for Boston to get a real prospect for two guys who probably went unclaimed by most of the league.
  20. Negative pitching WAR. It had never been done until 2020. Look for yourself. https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=pit&lg=all&qual=0&type=8&season=2020&month=0&season1=1901&ind=1&team=0,ts&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&startdate=1901-01-01&enddate=2020-12-31&sort=20,a
  21. While Sale is a great pitcher, he's already had setbacks in his return and will probably see an innings limit if he makes it back by July. I think you are incorrect to suggest that he is the piece that will take them from the worst staff in the history of baseball to a playoff contender. Anything they get from those guys after not pitching for 18 months is a bonus, not an expectation.
  22. I'm not convinced that Garrett Richards and Adam Ottavino drastically alter the outlook for the worst pitching staff in the history of baseball, nor am I convinced that their offense, while good, is in a position to lead such bad pitching to a playoff berth.
