  1. Idk.. I think if you're going to indict AA for the failure, you would have to base it on talent evaluation or something. There wasnt any problems with his premise (in adding W's I mean) as he in fact added W's on both sides of the ball this year. Most thought he gave away too much (which I agreed on but that's a separate argument).. but most of us thought he put a playoff team together. I think that was fully backed up by projections.
  2. I think with BOS (and more more specifically Bobby V) it was clear addition by subtraction.
  3. Yeah, really. Great example with the 93 Jays too. Like saying saying if you have an offense like the NYY in years past, you can get away without having great SP... thanks tips
  4. Jays offense is filled with guys that are 50-50 shots for next year and beyond.. I feel better having a more balanced approach then thinking if we add some more runs on O (Ellsbury and Ruiz say), we will compete as our O will carry the day. Our BP is 50/50 too, like most other pens.. so I think worrying over how many innings you expect your SP to give you next year isnt such a bad thing.
  5. This is a fairly poop analysis by yourself... "It just worries me that AA doesn't seem to understand that teams win by scoring more runs then the other guys." He does. Anyone does. You score more runs then the other team by BOTH scoring and preventing. So which is more ideal historically maybe?.. But instead of offering an educated analysis studying a bunch of recent playoff/winnings teams or something, you give a cherry picked example from a different era.. at least give some examples of what would happen (runs wise and what it might mean for W-L) if we would have gotten Player X instead of using Player Y. But even doing that is very easy in hindsight. Going into the season with a grand scheme is something else entirely Idk.. just seemed like a pretty s*** post. "You win more games by scoring more than the next team.. AA doesnt understand that"
  6. Steroids will only get you so far. He's had too many nagging injuries going back 5-6 years. 2009-2010 was where the big drop came and I assume he was juicing then. Every year he was battling something. Juice prob helped him stay relevant. Doesnt have same body makeup as Clemens/Bonds, etc
  7. IDK.. I'm not saying "win one for the gipper" speeches do anything.. and I understand bullpen/lineup changes prob only account for a handful of games per season..so I'm not a believer in a manager as any major plus WAR.. But I believe clubhouse cancer could effect a mlb team just like it could any high-stakes workplace. I think just about any manager in baseball might have been 10 or wins better with the Sox then Bobby V.
  8. Yeah, we're near the same conclusion. What I'm saying was after 2012 it didnt look great for the franchise going forward..I can understand him maybe feeling pressure to "win now".. but his plan to aquire 30-something, big $ health risks clearly wasnt the right panic move.
  9. this is evidence of what I mean. Their scouting dept. obviously said "this guy is ready".. had to be so to start the clock.. then one inning later he's not?
  10. To me.. his bs of providing some superior edge in scouting/development got completely exposed.. he brought no big value to the table in that regard.. not that he was awful and there was some good in there.. but no evidence of being like an OAk, Tex, TAM etc.. so I was ok with being more like JPR but he targeted wrong guys.
  11. One narrative that's a legit explanation that many had, including myself, is that the plan you mentioned AA having wasnt really working out. His drafts/prospects have mostly fizzled. I mean yes he moved Noah and TDA but neither was a guaranteed franchise changer. All the hopes of seeing Gose, Lawrie, Drabek and other be franchise cornerstones started fading last season.. then you have an aging core already in Jose/Edwin.. I mean, was staying the course really going to be better? Woud we be better off if those moves werent made. I say yes.. but would we really be a team set up to compete the next 3-4 years in AL East? No way Guy prob panicked a bit and knew he could lose a job he may never get again.
  12. As I think njh mentioned, it's better to specify there's a difference between the value of WAR surplus and what guys actually get paid per WAR on the market Some recent examples are Wilson and Sanchez who got around $17m+ and I think teams that were persuaded by them prob viewed them at least as 3.5-4 WAR guys in the near future. However, MB carries a lot less risk in terms of contract length.. so I think there would be someone willing to take him on but for what would prob come back, I would rather have him stay as I wouldnt trust TOR to reinvest elsewhere. Woudl likely mean they were going back to padding bottom line
  13. Gio Gonz wife... Im totally spamming now
  14. Despite the unanimous vote on here, I dont thik she's hot. She has a couple nice glam shots where she looks good.. but normally I dont think she's hot. In scrolling some player's wives.. here's David DeJesus's wife. Like her:)
  15. Sweet life. Must be nice going in somewhere knowing you could pick up any of the chicks no problem, boyfriend or not.
  16. Actually that was the best line i read. Funny but prob true
  17. Cool your shorts. Being a celeb means people are going to talk s*** about you on the internet. Most would trade their life for the celeb's though. Is what it is. Dont be such a wet blanket.
  18. lol.. just read it.. I guess everyone has their own definition of "perfect".. it actually didnt even seem romantic.. like a vain celebrity couple would do. She's not that hot.. buy maybe bad pic? I was going to start a thread one day with hottest/ugliest mlb player wives/gfs out of curiousity. Too lazy for research though
  19. I would bet C mean OPS isnt too high over .700.. .720 or something at best I would think. Anyone know?
  20. Yeah I dont think I saw that from anyone.. we're all just fans and see what we see in the games (or read on fangraphs).. the org has many other references to work from. If Gomes was an isolated incident it would be different. But AA's drafts have been very lackluster in finding quality major leaguers outside one or two possibilities (granted he's drafted many hs arms in last few years years but there are plenty of clear misses by now). Not to mention he had the best SP in baseball to move (and build the farm) when he came in and he turned that into basically Gose, Drabek, and TDA. Many years later there's no mlb production from any of them as of yet (and TDA was moved for a old SP that fizzled). His whole tenure was originally based on he was going to have superior scouting that gave him a distinct advantage over other teams basically. Many bought into it at the time.. but looking back, there's little evidence to support that
  21. I think the problem is you darn kids and the "affirmative action" generation Us old timers (im 34) know life isnt fair and deal with it:)
  22. No way. During that sample size he could have had way fewer tough/impossible plays. You think a +15 fielder that goes to -1 the next year changed that much?
  23. Also just the one point on GD's answer that didnt satisfy me on.. I dont think you can punish a guy just cause he gets more opps being on a good team. He does in fact literally help his team win more (in that given season, like the WS MVP in a much sss) when he produces more runs. Again, cause we are talking about actual runs in games and not a hypothetical vaccum for comparison
  24. Well, I think it i was shaping it to anti-WAR angle like CBS guy.. Actually i forgot the biggest issue of them all which is defense. Unless there's 3-4 years worth of data in that regard to average out and apply.. Its not responsible to use those numbers to rank guys in a given season
