  1. lol.. now we're getting more in-depth so I give up on my side (I agree to all of that).. but in terms of CC.. as I said, he's prob going to be living on a year-2-year contract at this age.. pitching in TOR wouldnt be wise move if he can find something else
  2. Ok.. so tell me what you'd do as head of Jays FO if you only had $5m (total) to spend this off-season on the FA market thats better than DR at 1/5.. don't forget that signing any SP looking for a rebound is highly unlikely to pitch in the RC.
  3. My argument was framed about the assumption you had the money to spend without neglecting other areas... not what the most efficient way to spend money is..
  4. I'm not a Loney fan myself.. but they got a good look at him and if they are projecting him as say a 6 WAR guy over 3 years for $21m.. I will give them the BOD over a fan's opinion until proven otherwise.. as you mentioned, they cant all be good but you get a leash
  5. So Robertson wouldnt be a good signing at 1/5? Not putting words in your mouth, just asking
  6. You guys are clearly wrong.. if teams had an opp to take on David Robertson's contract (1/5) w/o giving up compensation.. just about every team would be tripping over themselves to sign him.. including TAM, OAk, and any other well run FO you can think of
  7. Doesn't have to be closer.. can be like David Robertson.. we're talking about guys that you know will be good.. or can feel good about.. not one of the people you mentioned outside CJ is a guy I would bet any money on having an ERA under 4.. though they very well might.. maybe Santos but I wouldnt feel good on him giving IP.. so same thing
  8. Well.. for more backup.. Beane apparently disagrees too. So you have the best two FOs in bb perhaps that both made stupid mistakes..
  9. Also I don't condone like a Pap signing.. we're talking about guys like GB
  10. Good strategy for a team that doesn't have pressure to get to the playoffs and win, sure.. honestly its like paying for an insurance policy.. you may end up having wasted the money but when s*** goes down, youre happy you spent the money
  11. They obviously did it for a reason.. sometimes TAM does some weird s*** but it usually turns out good.. so even if a contract like Loney looks fishy.. they get the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise
  12. well TB disagrees, so that's 2/3:p
  13. So a guy like G. Balfour doesn't fit what I said?
  14. I wanted Jays to keep Downs for 3/15 I can think of right away.. $5m wasn't much to not deal with seeing the s*** show of late innings that Jays can do one year and be good the next
  15. Really? What about when you realize your BP f'n blows and then if you want to try to salvage your season if youre a playoff team and you pay 5x the going rate for elite relievers.. s***** strategy
  16. Most relievers.. I agree with that.. but there's some worthy of a contract on the open market..
  17. I don't know why teams get the hate for signing known relievers for contracts like that. Its so easy to say relievers are replaced easily.. but the majority of guys are like Brett Cecil.. you really don't know what you're going to get year-to-year. Then you spend the first part of your season blowing games with a merry-go-round of guys until you find something that works.. then at the end of the season you can point to the guy that had a 2.60 ERA is a small sample size (as 1 even full year is for any reliever) and say they could've just used him.. then the next year that same guy may have a 4.60 ERA.. If I was a contending team I wouldn't have a problem spending some extra money on an insurance policy in terms of my BP on guys you can feel strongly on them being good...especially since they're normally on short deals.. all that said, I'm not a big FR guy.. I don't know what they're getting but the terms somewhat reflect that as you mentioned.
  18. Maybe he wanted to keep the streaming porn off the main site to not repulse casuals.. lol
  19. The O's sign AJ.. if they have any decency to their fan base, they will make that deal
  20. In fairness, it was explained pretty well a few times.. just sandwiched between attacks..lol
  21. Or infamy!! see: Billy Buckner NFL- Scott Norwood
  22. Baseball legend really. I grew up hearing about Bill Mazeroski's ? homer. Thurman Munson.. Bobby Thompson.. you don't need to be a HOF to go down as a legend
  23. I'm an open-person and don't mind anti-saber posts if they're legit.. but you've had a pretty thick skull here.. its like you think all 30 mlb teams work off the same set of rules of engagement. They are signing someone based on how they make the team better (W-L).. each team has their own criteria I'm sure to make their own estimation. But even then, how can you tie an exact dollar figure to it? There's so many factors in FA like player availability from one year to the next and a team's need at the given time. Sometimes other things can factor in as well. Like with the Blue Jays/Marlins deal Im sure the JAys thought they were adding wins.. but it appears they were ready to do that at a much higher W/$ than you would think.. that based on the fact that they were probably looking to sell their product more.. so questioning how contracts work is an inexact science to say the least.
  24. Hence miltstar should accept it now.. don't think he migrated here though
  25. Just seeing this thead.. you went too obvious troll here to be really good.. should have stuck with the original thought of a guy needing to swing the bat
