    Nobody has claimed Pompey will be a great CF in his first full year. The term "ace" is thrown around too frequently to quantify what an ace really is. I can think of 29 other teams that would love to have Stroman in their rotation. Travis is probably a ~2 win upgrade over the current 2B regime. I anticipate one more signing (Headley or McCarthy please) and at least one trade (Saunders out of SEA but I don't see it happening, plus Navarro should be gone). As long as AA isn't content with the current team, there is reason to believe this team can compete for the WC.

    Saves ~3 million for as far as I can tell similar production against LHP. Problem is he too requires a RH bat to platoon with @ DH. Edit: A Jaso/Mayberry platoon might work nicely.

    Not a very good framer, concussion issues. Defense>bat as a back up C. I like him as a left handed OBP option against righties. Career 127 wRC+ vs RHP with a .368 OBP. Slides in nicely between Jose and Edwin.

    Tough to use your backup C as the primary DH unless you're willing to hit the pitcher in the event of an injury. Possible DH/1B role though I think, hopefully make an upgrade on Thole as the backup.

    You can't just take every player's fault, then find a similar comp and project them to have the same success. Maddux, Johnson, whoever else Nobody here is denying the upside Sanchez has. It's just the odds of him reaching it are much, much slimmer than others (see walk rate, ability to throw strikes, short stride length leading to future injuries). Prospects can be looked at as currency. Right now, Mr. Sanchez's value is probably pretty high.

    I agree selling high is important (ala Sanchez). There are so many variables to take into account over the past two years it's almost impossible to say what would've happened. Now if you were referencing trading TDA and Syndergaard for Latos, then I would agree.

    Do you think they make the Jays a real contender, though? Keep in mind Martin probably isn't pursued if TDA is behind the dish.

    Can't say I've once stated "trade Sanchez for Bruce". What I did elude to was that I feel Sanchez is more valuable as a trade asset than in the rotation or pen, long term.

    To me, I don't see him being successful as a major league starter if he can't address the walks. The big league sample was encouraging, but not enough for me to believe it has been fixed. That's why his value may have reached its pinnacle. Success in the majors (in a SSS). If he comes out next year and blows up, either in the pen on the rotation, we're looking at another Drabek situation.

    I have to disagree. I don't think Yunel (if he's still even under contract), Syndergaard, TDA, Marisnick, Alvarez and whoever else make us a real contender this year.

    This Cinderella dream of a Stroman, Hoffmann, Norris, Sanchez, Hutch rotation come 2017 needs to be put to rest, IMO. Prospects bust. All the time. What AA needs to do is identify which ones he thinks will bust, and trade them at peak value. Exhibit 1: Aaron Sanchez

    I think this board has to temper expectations on prospects. I'm just being real here. Sanchez has been shaky as a starter his entire professional career. Walk rate worrisome. Ya he fit into the back end of a Jays bullpen that wasn't going to the playoffs. I'm not saying trading him for Bruce is the right call (haven't really thought much about it, tbh). But in reality, Sanchez probably ends up as a good back end of the bullpen when his career is said and done. His value, to the Toronto Blue Jays is probably highest in a trade that nets a long term asset, or a glaring need.
