    The reason people are jumping on him is because of his hypothetical scenarios that go something like this: Lawrie could hit .280 with 20 home runs. Graveman and Nolin could become a solid #3/4's and Barreto could be a top 25 prospect. Donaldson could die in a plane crash tomorrow and we would lose all surplus value. Great trade by the A's. Holy f*** man, obviously all of those are within the realm of possibility. We don't need him telling us that. I try to look at things objectively without my blue shaded glasses on. It's the type of trade that the A's are built on, and will probably work out nicely for them. Lawrie provided them with a 3B to replace Donaldson who will end up being much cheaper, a couple guys to chew up innings and a SS prospect to replace the void filled from the Russell trade. The Blue Jays acquired an elite player by only subtracting Lawrie from the big league roster. He parades around here acting like he was the first one to realize the trade wasn't a heist. Anyone with half a brain on the forum as acknowledged this from the beginning.

    Saying that people underestimate the chances of Donaldson collapsing is ridiculous. He probably has one of the safest floors in the league due to his defense at 3B and being an MVP level hitter at the Rogers Centre.

    There is value in 4 WAR coming from one player as opposed to coming from three. Not to mention, that 4 WAR player being arb eligible.

    My mistake. You never know on this board, there are lots of people who honestly think Hoffman could be in the rotation in September. Regardless, Hutch has proven himself to be at least a league average starter. If two of Gray/Sanchez/Norris/Hoffman/Harris became the same that would be a success.

    Hutch does not go to the pen in any trade for SP the Blue Jays make. There are at least three starters who are worse than him on this team.

    So was I. My general point was that the majority of Olerud's posts contain hypothetical scenarios that we have no control over. What if's and maybe's don't hold much weight in an argument.

    Yes it is. 26 year old Rob Rasmussen, a generic, run of the mill BP arm adds exactly nothing of value to this hypothetical trade. A B prospect in this situation is a player similar to Castro, not Rasmussen.
