    I don't mind it in a vacuum- a young team with a protected first round pick signing a veteran to fill a leadership role and put people in the stands. Philly has the funds to do so as well. I just don't think Bautista is the guy you would want filling role. Blast me for veteran presence if you feel the need- but there is certainly something to be said for surrounding a young core with a guy(s) who have been there, done that. Even if you can't sort it on Fangraphs.

    No need to extend Stroman or Sanchez unless it looks like Quintana's deal. Travis might never be healthy for an entire year and extending closers with lots of team control and TJS is a no no.

    I've said it before and I'll say it again, Pittsburgh would rather hold onto him than deal him for a lackluster offer. We see it every year- some team finds themselves in the thick of a pennant or WC race and can justify moving high end prospects for a guy like him (see Price; David). Moving him for less than what they deem fair would be disastrous. If they didn't have faith he would rebound I think we would've seen him moved by now. I think (and I know I would) rather bet on a rebound and selling him at the deadline than moving him right now for a package around Devon Travis or someone to that effect.

    Well like intentional wok countered, playing chicken with 80M isn't the best idea either. They put their best foot forward out of the gate and didn't beat around the bush. 3/54 with an option year would've seemed more gimmicky than 4/80.

    Run Carrera and Upton for all I care. Not re-signing Edwin at a price point they found fair signals to me they're much more concerned long term. The last thing I want to see is them refuse to give one up for Edwin and then do it to sign Bautista for one year.

    If you're going to lose the pick might as well make sure you get an option or two. If not just take the pick at this point and sign somebody else. Not interested in Jose on a one year deal at all. Would rather accelerate the prospect cultivation.
