Trading for Manoah gives you the privilege to pay him 33M for one single season 6 WAR at 10M = 60M 27M surplus Manoah is under control for four (?) more seasons. Those years of control are valuable to a team who is re-tooling

Exactly. Bring him on board, pitch him for an entire year and then pay the man. The odds of signing him go up dramatically if he just played in your organization for an entire season vs having to sell him on the vision

I mean it’s the Kawhi situation where you bring in a soon to be massive free agent and make your pitch to them. In this case if Ohtani signs elsewhere (likely) and they trade for Soto they have a year to convince him to stay. A big splash to show off all the new corporate seating would make a lot of sense too

I agree with everyone who wants to trade Manoah. Sign Wade Miley to be the #5, he is a FIP beater who chews innings. Ricky T the first man up. Trading for Soto is like pulling a Kawhi. You go for it and hope you can re-sign him. The fact they’re in play for Ohtani shows a willingness to spend. And a left handed outfielder is one of their clearest needs
