Don't expect any big trades in Boston

Considering the team needs to protect their young prospects, trying to avoid a repeat of the A-Gone trade disaster(which cost them Anthony Rizzo, who could've been playing 1st right now).
Any moves will be bullpen related--they don't need more pitching or another bat, considering they're already a strong team as is.
Good thing--they have to give new contracts to Pedroia(likely to be very expensive, depending what Cano gets), Ellsbury and Lester. They also have rotation holes to fill down the road when Dempster, Lester and Lackey become free agents after 2014-2015, depending on the development of Webster, De La Rosa, Workman, Barnes, etc.
They also need to find a closer--Uehara is a stopgap, and Bailey's still uncertain.
You do realize Boston was contedning at the All Star Break last year--most of their problems were caused by David Ortiz's injury. He is important to them contending.
Depending whether they resign Ellsbury and the team stays healthy--and they need more bullpen help. No way they're going deep in the postseason with that bullpen(and rotation outside of Lackey and Buchholz)
Try a 62-62 career record. And Garza has a 6.17 ERA at Yankee Stadium--signing him to pitch there would be as bad as signing Carl Pavano back in 2005. Garza should stay away from Texas as well--his numbers are over 6 as well there. Despite a 5-1 record this year, he has not faced a quality opponent other than Cincinnati.
Anyone who gives Anibal Sanchez money to Garza is going to regret it.
You're an idiot. Yanks don't have the prospects for Headley(Padres want a lot for him)--and Choo will cost a draft pick, as will Garza(unless Chicago trades him). Kuroda won't be back--and he'll likely demand more money if he does return.
A-Rod at DH? Yeah right--he's more likely to be released than ever play another game for the Yankees. And Choo isn't an option--Wells is under contract until 2014, and
You also forget that Cano will wipe out a good chunk of the savings--he's going for Pujols/A-Rod money.
Matt Garza is a .500 pitcher at best--not to mention he belongs in the NL, not the AL. He also stinks in NY--his numbers in 2010 at Yankee Stadium as a member of the Rays were awful.
Jeter's no guarantee to return in 2014--he may choose retirement instead, depending on health. Ditto for Pettite and Kuroda.
All he's doing is replacing Andrew Miller--and he's a downgrade regardless (0-3, 4.00 ERA, 6.8 K/9 IP, 1.25 WHIP).
Brandon Jacobs was Boston #11 prospect according to MLB.com:
Scouting Grades* (present/future): Hit: 3/5 | Power: 4/6 | Run: 5/5 | Arm: 4/4 | Field: 5/5 | Overall: 4/5
When the Red Sox went over slot to sign Jacobs away from a football scholarship, they likely knew it would take some time to put his considerable raw tools to consistent use on the baseball field. It looked like he had figured some things out with his first taste of full-season ball when he hit over .300 and slugged over .500 while stealing 30 bases. Perhaps the 123/43 K/BB ratio should have been a warning, but the move up to the Carolina League wasn't as kind for Jacobs. He still showed some extra-base power and stole some bases, but once again struggled with plate discipline (128/39 K/BB). That's not allowing him to tap into that raw power consistently enough. If he can control the strike zone more and become more efficient, it's all still there for him to be an impact bat playing an outfield corner.

The trade is barely benefitting the Mets--Syndegaard is the only one who's doing well in the trade. D'Arnaud is still hurt--and is looking like a bust because of his inability to stay healthy.
Keep in mind Dickey has had a back injury as well. Also, the article doesn't consider the fact that Rasmus may get resigned before he reaches free agency.
Forgot to mention that we're close to chasing Texas now--they've really struggled recently due to injuries to pitching and Lance Berkman. They're only a .5 game up on Tampa now.
Nobody else is gaining ground either--Tampa's hot! And so is Boston. At the rate things are going, Boston and Tampa are going to have huge leads in the East soon..

Still a bleak free agent market--and the Jays should look into trading Josh Johnson ASAP--see what they can get for him(hopefully a young 2B and more pitching)
Congrats to Matt Moore--he's been invited to the All-Star game, replacing Yu Darvish(DL). With his Rays surging towards 1st place (could be 2.5 back by tonight, as Boston is losing 4-1 in Seattle right now.), it's well deserved.
Jeter returns today. Whether it boosts the Yankees is a different story.. that lineup isn't very good as is, despite last nights blowout(why is Wade Davis even in the rotation for KC?)
