  1. That should've been called a home run. Shuck went into the stands and I didn't see him catch it.
  2. Yeah--he'll tell Miami taxpayers to pay for reno's to Marlins Park or he'll move the team.. even though the stadium's only 2 years old. And he'll say they can't afford anybody making more than $5M(guessing)
  3. Makes you wonder if the Jays are souring on Arencibia--especially with Thole getting another start on a non RA Dickey start.
  4. A lot of teams wanted Johnson--not just the Jays. I recall Boston wanting both Reyes and Johnson last offseason as well. http://fullcount.weei.com/sports/boston/baseball/red-sox/2013/05/01/red-sox-were-also-thinking-about-acquiring-josh-johnson-jose-reyes/ Aren't they glad they didn't make that trade? Had they made that trade, Boston is likely out of playoff contention right now, like the Jays are. Of course, their mid-level signings haven't all worked--Dempster's a scrub right now, as bad as Josh Johnson. Probably explains the Peavy trade--Boston can't go into October with mediocrity like Lester, Dempster, and Lackey(he's been mediocre post All Star Break) in a rotation against elite teams like Oakland, Detroit/Cleveland, or Tampa.
  5. Oh, and the NL isn't a race at all--print those playoff tickets in: East: Atlanta Central: Pittsburgh, St. Louis(WC1), Cincinnati(WC2) West: Dodgers STILL IN MIX: D-Backs (3.5 GB of LA, 4.5 GB of Wild Card) Only Cincinnati could be considered on the bubble(.500 team in last 30 games, 4-6 in last 10). And their schedule gets no easier(Cardinals this weekend). Cubs aren't pushovers either(they're actually playing close to .500 in their last 30--but they need bullpen help!)
  6. Well, the race is getting interesting in the AL: EAST: Red Sox Rays 1.0 GB CENTRAL Detroit Cleveland 2.0 GB KC Royals 6.5 GB WEST Oakland Texas 3.5 GB WILD CARDS Rays (+4.0 GB) (1st WC) Indians (0.0 GB)(2nd WC) Baltimore (0.5 GB) Texas (0.5 GB) Yankees (3.5 GB) Royals (4.5 GB) And the Jays stink at 10 GB(tied with Seattle) Boston gets the D-backs, Lastros, Royals and Jays next--Rays get the Giants, D-Backs and Dodgers. Indians have Miami(easy series) and a key matchup with the Tigers. Oakland plays Texas this weekend--key series for Texas if they want to play in October, considering they have a deep gap in the AL West. Detroit gets Chicago, Cleveland, then the Yankees. Kansas City gets an easy sked with the Mets and Twins--then the 1st place Red Sox. Keep an eye on those Royals as well--they could make it interesting in the Central and wild card, especially if Detroit slips. Weren't the Angels, Jays, and Yankees supposed to be near the top? Looks like those "critics" who predict in the preseason screw up again.
  7. D'Arnaud has yet to play at the big league level. John Buck is as bad as JPA with the bat--only his glove saves him. Yan Gomes is a part-time player--small sample size. Good thing Esmil Rogers turned into a adequate starter.. or that trade was a major mistake. The way he's going, he may force Carlos Santana to 1B/DH sooner than later to protect Santana's knees(and it's been a huge boost for the contending Indians--but they STILL can't catch Detroit. Lucky they have a 4-gamer next week.) Torrealba is a part-timer as well--Wilin Rosario is the starter in Colorado. Jeff Mathis is too similar to Josh Thole. But you are right--JPA has got to go. His poor catching skills and bad bat are killing us. If the team wants to get better, JPA should be dealt or sent to AAA, and they should acquire a better catcher this offseason. Here's the free agent list courtesy of MLB Trade Rumors: Catchers Henry Blanco (42)(likely to retire) John Buck (33) Jesus Flores (29) Ramon Hernandez (38)(likely to retire--Jays didn't even want to call him up) Brian McCann (30) Jose Molina (38) Dioner Navarro (30) Wil Nieves (36) Miguel Olivo (35) Ronny Paulino (33) Brayan Pena (32) A.J. Pierzynski (37) Humberto Quintero (34) Carlos Ruiz (35) Jarrod Saltalamacchia (29) Kelly Shoppach (34) Chris Snyder (33) Geovany Soto (31) Kurt Suzuki (30) - $8.5MM club option with a $650K buyout Yorvit Torrealba (35) You want Torrealba or Buck? Wait until the offseason--they're free agents. Keep in mind we also have AJ Jimenez on the way as well. Don't be surprised if he gets a September call-up(he's on the 40-man).
  8. Cleveland now leads the 2nd wild card--Carlos Santana hit a walk-off HR vs. Dylan Axelrod.
  9. Brett Obelholtzer shuts out the O's! Indians could lead the 2nd wild card if they beat the White Sox tonight. (and we're still a long way from contention at 8.5 back)
  10. Well, we're not bad enough to outright sell--but not good enough to buy either. A number of teams, including the Royals, Indians, Mariners, etc. were in the same boat--nobody wanted to blow prospects for rentals, unless they were really desperate(see Jake Peavy to Boston)
  11. Nice to see Santos back--more power for our bullpen. Bummer on McGowan, though.
  12. Yeah..this is a baseball game, not college football! Most us Canadians don't care about college football.
  13. Epic fail by Sportsnet--why did it just go to ESPN2?
  14. Xander Bogaerts, despite his offensive prowess, isn't that great a fielder(right now--he's a 4 according to MLB ranking, meaning he's weak defensively at SS. His arm projects better at 3B than SS. He'll have to wait though--Middlebrooks is apparently getting the callup.
  15. Sorry to say, but I also expect Peavy to be destroyed in the AL East. They must really think highly of Xander Bogaerts to trade Iglesias..they're going to be worse defensively and Peavy's likely to replace Workman in the rotation(with Workman going to AAA, bullpen or trade)
  16. Yep, this weekend--Jays play the Angels.
  17. Angels are tearing it down--expect Aybar and Kendrick to be gone within days as well. Only Trout, Weaver and Trumbo are untouchable.
  18. Peavy trade imminent. O's, Braves, Red Sox, A's, and Cards are in the mix.
  19. Indy, Charlotte and New Orleans are AAA cities. Basically, it's either Montreal or they build a new stadium in Tampa. The reason is due to the fact at least Montreal has a temporary facility in Olympic Stadium while they build a new ballpark, similar to what RFK Stadium was to the Nats when they were building Nationals Park. None of those "front-running" cities are likely to get an MLB team--they don't have a decent stadiums or any new stadiums in the plans to get an MLB team. In addition, Charlotte has attendance issues with their MiLB team. And their new stadium coming won't be big enough to support an MLB team.
  20. At least the Phillies kept him away from Boston.
  21. Astros have a bright future? Not for at least 3-4 years.. they should've started a rebuild years ago instead of making stupid signings and trades(Tejada, Feliz, etc.)
  22. Man, Paul Clemens sucks.. BTW, Boston is out of 1st place. They lost to Baltimore--and Tampa's going to beat the Yankees.
  23. Only Syndergaard is a top prospect--Nicolino is a long ways off(and struggling in AA), D'Arnaud looks like a bust because of his inability to stay healthy, and Marisnick should be in AA. Even though our Jays are bad now, they'd be worse off without those trades.
  24. At this point, he might be better taking a QO from the Jays--no team is giving him a multi-year deal with his current numbers or health. Tim Lincecum of the Giants faces the same dilemma..
  25. Jake Marisnick continues to struggle against MLB pitching-- 0-12, 4 Ks, 0 BBs. Stupid Marlins.. this guy isn't close to MLB ready. He's only up because Ozuna tore a thumb ligament. Marisnick should be in AA.. even though he hit well in AA, he also Kd at close to a 25% rate as well, and hasn't even played in AAA.
