  1. Yennsy Diaz, RHP, Toronto Blue Jays (Rookie Bluefield): 6 IP, 2 H, BB, 8 K. Diaz has quickly emerged as one of the premier talents Toronto scooped up in its 2014 international spending spree, generating mid-90’s velocity despite a modest frame thanks to premium arm speed and athleticism. The secondaries are what we call “developmental,” but that’s okay, because he’s in Rookie ball, so he fits right in. The change shows the most promise, and he’s managed to hold his own in the Appy despite being young for the level.
  2. Dickey's numbers are worse than I thought. Hmm.
  3. Joe, don't worry - Toronto is trash against pitchers they haven't seen before.
  4. Man, talk about a big league debut. Ok Danny, we only have like two relievers tonight and you're one of them. You'll be facing the middle of the Astros order in the 8th inning of a one run game, on the road, in a tight playoff race. Go get 'em.
  5. Danny BarnesVerified account ‏@DjbMantis Pitching to contact is overrated
  6. Max Pentecost already has a 3B and 2B tonight. Bat is too advanced for Lansing!
  7. Jeremy Accardo Danny Farquhar Brad Lincoln Colt Hynes On the shoulders of giants
  8. Everybody in MLB has scouts that like them. You can't give scouts credit generally for everybody that figures out how to be great. If so, you can also say scouts are f***ing garbage because Travis Snider and Dom Brown suck butts
  9. So Grant and JFaS are normal while Dinger and I have diagnosable personality disorders. Says a lot about this place
  10. They are missing the point. Pittsburgh has always been a low-budget team. The $17M that they saved here is very important and will be reinvested in something.
  11. FWIW Stroman made a lot of really bad pitches in the first few innings yesterday that Houston simply missed and watched. Lots of hanging breaking balls. Like, ten.

  13. On a more serious note, many mental illnesses are probably more properly considered (and helped) under a social model of disability: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_model_of_disability As opposed to: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medical_model_of_disability
  14. Grant is basically Temple Grandin, except with bugs instead of cows.
  15. He is extremely high functioning. He has a science degree and he can play the tuba and everything.
  16. They probably expect someone with a 94 wRC+ in AA to never be a good hitter. It's amazing how much of a super-fan you are.
  17. They shouldn't be wishing and hoping that his bat blossoms at this point. If it happens, it will be a nice surprise. It very likely won't though.
  18. Yeah they were garbage trades. I hate them. I wonder if Toronto will try Liriano as a late inning lefty in the playoffs, assuming he never finds "it" as a starter this year.
  19. I actually think a reserve role in the big leagues could be a pretty good way of developing a catching prospect. It lets them work with the big boy pitching staff, get their feet wet, see somewhat regular playing time. It's not like other bench roles. Not at all.

  21. If Grilli gets results like 2012, 2013, 2015 in high leverage playoff race / playoff innings, then it's certainly a high-reward outcome. The leverage index would be off the charts! I think you see this type of evaluation in the current RP markets. Guys like Will Smith and Ken Giles get traded for elite prospect packages these days because GMs have some type of information about the value of elite relief pitching, in playoff contexts.
  22. 5 more weeks Min (8th) goes - Pharm, Los Oldos, Slayers, Mike Trout, Bye Week. Talk about running the gauntlet before his Bye Week! BTS (9th) goes - Pigs, Kats, Sluts, Burritoz, Harry Potter fan. Not exactly murderer's row. Could BTS sneak into the playoffs after being a write-off?
