  1. Clay Holmes is performing well so far. Only 60 innings though. Hicks is probably a success story all things considered. It's NOT like he was even an elite reliever, remember. Just the remote possibility that you get something close to the Seth Lugo experience makes it worth trying for lots of guys who have the arsenal. There are some other guys who are essentially RP to SP conversions but you don't notice as much because of how they broke in or got their chance. I think Ronel Blanco and Zack Littell were essentially just relievers for several years before going back to starting. I guess teams are just better these days at figuring out which RP can probably do well as a starter because there are a lot of success stories.
  2. I'm all for it if he gets through this year clean Even the way Toronto has used him this year kind of hints at it. Those two inning games.
  3. I think the lack of command on it is the biggest problem Most of them are non competitive or down the middle
  4. I wonder if there was some sort of assurance like "if you make it through 2025 healthy we will give a chance to start in 2026" so he is refusing to shrink his arsenal
  5. Came here to say this again Judging from Gameday, he threw three splitters today with nearly disastrous results. Almost hit a batter, then gave up a long flyball on a middle middle splitter, then almost hit the next batter
  6. The game plan isn't to let the Jays hit 100 mph groundballs, chief
  7. Lots of bad luck last two games. Tons of 100+ mph groundouts or double plays like that one.
  8. You think? I seem to remember him being a piece of s*** for a year+ before he got hurt
  9. Baltimore v Boston is a weird series. I guess Baltimore is so far down the table at this point that we just cheer for them?
  10. if this is average bat speed, surely some component of it is that guys like Walker and Adell just have no idea what is coming so they just put their A swing on everything 80 mph swing at a fastball to foul it off 80 mph swing at a curveball to miss it by two feet I don't think there is much hope for Walker or Adell at this point. They square up almost nothing.
  11. The pitching strategy worked great today until Hoffman blew it. Yimi, Fluharty, and Green should all be able to throw tomorrow if necessary.
  12. Hoffman's splitter is the problem. Ball Ball Ball Homer Then he puts it away and gets three outs. I said this a week or two ago. Time to just scrap it for the year. I don't know why they are obsessed with it.
  13. maybe the plan was to bunt it at Machado again since he's horrible
  14. why bunt with Heineman there too? lmao
  15. worst to best who would have thought it could happen I mean everybody liked the Hoffman signing and it was hard to complain about Yimi but the Little and Fluharty emergences have been massive And we might be seeing another random emergence in Fisher who seems to have two plus breaking balls. Plus Y Rod throwing well. Sandlin coming back. Depth! and Whiffs! Depth and Whiffs!
  16. It's not about options - Roden and Clase have already been optioned this year so both have used an "option year" no matter how many times they are up an down They just think Roden needs time to develop. And maybe think Clase is a better fit for now as a bench OF.
  17. Funny how your perception of a player like Lukes can develop. I used to think of him as a decent defender without much stick. Now it is obvious that he is more like Roden or Wagner. Just an older, more refined version. Puts the bat on the ball, with a feel for the barrel, with middling power and mediocre at best defense. I wouldn't expect him to homer at this rate going forward but it seems like he should put up competitive at bats.
  18. Kirk > Rutschman and younger
  19. Grayson is a kid who had shoulder problems last year Bradish literally had TJS and was known to be out for most of this year Eflin has never eaten innings, had shoulder problems in 2024 and chronic knee issues for years in Philly Those are nice names if you are putting together a 10 man rotation like the Dodgers. Glass cannon tactics. Not really smart to put them ahead of seven Kyle Gibsons, though. That's just asking for exactly what happened to the Orioles this year. When your injury prone and high-risk SP get hurt, you can't call it bad luck.
  20. "just bad luck" Tomoyuki Sugano Charlie Morton Kyle Gibson Cole Irvin Albert Suarez Cody Poteet Trevor Rogers Luis F. Castillo Some of the slop the Orioles have brought in to start games in the last 2/3 years, while everyone who watches baseball, O's fans and haters alike, screamed at them to invest in bankable SP. Mike Elias milked 1.4 WAR out of Suarez last year, then read all his fan fiction on the BJMB, and thought he had solved baseball.
  21. He was one of the most popular sleepers entering 2024 on the strength of his peripherals but he legit sucked in his first few weeks of 2024, with a measly 8.7% K-BB%. His K/9 was more like 9 and he was walking 5.55 per 9 and getting hammered as well. I almost dropped him in the DDL. You don't get unlucky and have a 2.22 WHIP for that long. He legit sucked, but he figured it out and it clicked. I dunno what was wrong with him but it was like he was tipping or something. Also, f you
  22. Hunter Brown was horrendous to start 2024 and had a 5+ ERA the prior year. There was a point in time where it was totally valid to think he might not be very good.
