  1. Best thing for Pompey is to start the year in [any other organization or maybe Japan]
  2. They aren't going to make a decision based on what's nice. they could justify optioning Teoscar or Billy if Pompey looks good all spring. Yes, it would be batshit to option Pillar. Mentioning it doesn't even make sense. (the rule is you can't option a player with 5+ years of service)
  3. This is a tremendous post.
  4. The value of this event is mind blowing. I spent $17 on Wendy's tonight...
  5. 1) This surely makes you qualified 2) Grade the moms on the 20-80 scale thanks
  6. Well, maybe Pillar or Grichuk, depending on the return and how the internal OF options develop
  7. interesting quote from Grandal: “I felt like part of my responsibility as a player was to respect the guys that went through this process before I did, those guys who established pay levels and markets for upper-tier catchers like me” basically, players are under pressure to prioritize AAV (for the sake of precedent) rather than duration, even if it means turning down $60M guaranteed for $18.5M
  8. The Diamondbacks signed Luciano as a 16-year-old from the Dominican Republic in late-2016 and shipped him to the Royals (along with Gabe Speier) in June for Jon Jay. The Royals then left him unprotected in December's Rule 5 draft for Toronto to swoop in and nab him. If Luciano reaches his full potential as a mid-rotation arm with high strikeout upside, that will turn out to be a great move for Toronto. Luciano features a mid-90's fastball, fading changeup, and a curveball that flashes plus at times, but lacks consistency. All three pitches project to be above-average to plus pitches and Luciano has improved his command since coming stateside. He's more than held his own in rookie ball over the last two years and his strong arsenal began missing more bats in 2018. Expect him to get a bump to Single-A in 2019. hmmmmmm single A, eh?
  9. I think there's significant value to having roster flexibility and multi-position players. Basically makes your roster more resilient, and sometimes even "antifragile" if the flexible player has upside.
  10. Yeah, a viable starting SS if you need him to be and if he's on your bench being able to secure SS while having a plug-in at all those other positions is nice. I would mostly be on him for the upside shot though.
  11. Well he feels like a lefty I bet he jerks off with his left hand
  12. wat really why did i think he was
  13. Why wouldn't the Orioles just come over the top an #BringMannyHome? The marketing boost would be tremendous. TREMENDOUS!
  14. Warm and fuzzy post... a bit too warm and fuzzy.
  15. Mediation to be followed by binding arbitration if you two can't reach a resolution. I would be the mediator and arbitrator
  16. Not even an honourable mention for phenom ERIC PARDINHO! on mlb.com's top 10 LHP prospects list.
  17. My assumption right now is that the depressed FA market is not actually an effect of the current CBA. I also highly doubt that it's collusion or anything like that. More likely, IMO, it's one of these things: 1) A natural market reaction to a saturation, over time, of horrendous deals. See enough Albert Pujols situations happen and you might vow to never go there. Or Jason Heyward, Chris Davis, Miguel Cabrera, etc. If enough teams decide to never go there again, the market collapses. 2) There is something behind the curtain that most teams know about that the public does not. Some type of novel research finding about surplus value or modern aging curves, that has drastically altered how teams project and value these players on the free agent market.
  18. This explanation definitely does not satisfy me. Most teams do not care about the cap or the associated penalties.
  19. They will probably trend towards s*** as they trade players and generally won't care about winning. Could say the opposite about a team like the Phillies or Reds, who don't project to be much better but even if they are .500 they will be buying.
  20. You sound like a corporate MLB-side apologist!
  21. The thing that is weird and stinky about free agency is that teams don't seem to make any attempt to bid up the prices anymore. At 7/$30 or 8/$25 or whatever there should be a dozen teams lined up with formal offers. It makes no sense. Why would nobody offer DJL more money or years? 2/$12 is a no-brainer for the Yankees and it's pathetic to see the Yankees just get no-brainer decisions falling into their lap.
  22. They are only projected for 2 more wins than Toronto. Just have to draw the tier lines somewhere. Greinke, Ray, Godley, Weaver is a very enviable top 4. They'll also have Walker back mid-season. Toronto has a better set of position players though. Toronto in that division might project for more wins than them tbh
  23. 77 wins is also like 2 games better than picking 8th overall in 2020. Projected tiers: ELITE - Yankees, Astros, Red Sox GREAT - Dodgers, Indians, Nationals GOOD - Cubs, Cardinals, Rays, Mets, Angels .500-ISH - Twins, Rockies, Athletics, Braves, Pirates, Phillies, Brewers, D-Backs, Reds BAD - Blue Jays, Giants, Padres s*** - Mariners, Rangers, Royals, White Sox, Tigers, Marlins ORIOLES - Orioles
  24. Well that's a tiny little article
