I tried to be a legal aid lawyer buy didn't even last 3 months. I had mild panic attacks whenever I had to even call clients for information. Now I am a policy analyst for fish and wildlife - even that is tough. Fish can be pretty rude!

As we have seen though, a player's perceived talent during their career is sometimes a deciding factor. The reputation of their unique talent level, in other words. Votto has that going for him. He has a solid reputation as being the most disciplined hitter, having the best batting eye in all of baseball, for about a decade. His personal reputation could help or harm him. People seem to like his personality but he has also been a bit of a dick historically. He's popular as hell on social media but who knows what the older writers think of him. We do know that lots of older writers probably think he is terribly overrated - not enough produkshun, not enough team success.

I guess he's a coin flip hall of famer at the moment, if he retires right now. Maybe a bit less then a coin flip. He will not end up with gaudy counting stats. He has one MVP but probably doesn't have a big hardware boost. No championships or playoff glory. His case will be very WAR dependent. His consistency and longevity will help. AVG will help and his historic OBP should help a decent amount. One more elite season would cement his case.

The pitching leaderboard is extremely dumb. Lance Lynn Matt Boyd Frankie Montas Hyun-Jin Ryu Lucas Giolito Mike Minor Jake Odorizzi These guys are all top 12 in fWAR. Imagine if that was your fantasy rotation a year or two ago - the outlook would have been not good.
