The Lowrie + Dom Smith thing is such a no-brainer that if it was that simple Toronto or some other team would have already pulled the trigger on it. The Mets must be asking for a non-trivial prospect to make it happen, or something like that.
Lowrie isn't even necessarily dead money. He was worth 8.6 WAR in 2017+2018. It's not like he had a catastrophic injury in 2019 either, IIRC it was a knee sprain then a hamstring strain then a calf strain. It's very much within the realm of possibility for him to put up a couple WARs in 2020. He could just be a part-time 2B/DH.
