  1. Okay so prospects traded by Toronto who were ranked in the top ~50 in context are just Syndergaard, d'Arnaud, and probably Steve Karsay. The first 2 were in one of the worst if not the worst trade in Blue Jays history, and Karsay was for Rickey Henderson in an eventually successful World Series push.
  2. Not the worst idea - sign the skinny Guerrero. "why can't you look like this, hmmm?"
  3. Okay yeah, Syndergaard would be close and d’Arnaud in context was better I guess. Good illustration though - hard to even imagine Toronto trading Groshans in a deal like that with this young team. They’ll just let Groshans develop and then join the fold. There’s no “window” here and even if there is it’s like six years wide
  4. Every GM of every team would always say that they may use the farm to improve the team by trade. There's a difference between using the farm to trade for talent and trading an elite prospect like Groshans. Correct me if I'm wrong but trading Groshans right now would maybe be Toronto trading the best prospect they've ever dealt in their history (in context, not looking back)???
  5. Really I have no idea where you would get this dumb thought from. One rumour that they checked in on Lindor? When has this Toronto regime ever signalled that they were interested in selling futures?
  6. wait, can you set up a "live online" draft with a draft room through fantrax but make the pick windows huge and have fantrax email the owners when they are up? is that what he was trying to do for the waiver draft? actually not a terrible idea but it wipes out our draft pick tracking so it would only be possible if we were doing a NPD like in the LOD
  7. lol spanky you f***ing moron i've revoked his commissioner access - i take full responsibility for that because why the f*** would i make everyone a commissioner when one of us is spanky can fantrax just restore our league to what it was on Jan 21? any idea?
  8. someone changed it to a live draft for some dumb reason. probably spanky
  9. One of the reasons I love what Fangraphs is doing now with prospect stuff. It's free, there is huge coverage, and it's systematic. On their prospect board from 2019 update: 1 --> 70 2-3 --> 65 4-14 --> 60 15-37 --> 55 38-106 --> 50 So prospects 38 to 106 were the same grade!
  10. I've looked into this before and the importance of being a "top 100" prospect really stops mattering after the top ~50 or so. 100 is an arbitrary number and players who are in the HM range of a top 100 are for the most part just as valuable as the back end top 100 players.
  11. Aggressive rankings for these three, which is great. Would have been nice to see a few more Blue Jays dudes sneak into the back end of the list but that doesn't really matter.
  12. You'd think so. Last year they added a couple of veterans in Phelps and Hudson in January and March and both worked out well. This year they haven't really added an MLB pen arm unless you just consider Tamagachi a reliever, which would be fair. I do not see what Pannone really offers. He is the only LHRP on the 40 man roster which is something, but it's not like he has obvious LOOGY qualities. Are there any decent LHRP available?
  13. That would probably be even worse. Maybe the people who decide which baseball players are the best should be the people whose actual jobs are to evaluate baseball player contributions to winning - executives, front office employees and analysts, and maybe scouts.
  14. Yeah that's all problematic and I'm not sure how to fix it. It needs to be a long process to account for changes in perception over time. But if it's a drawn out process writers will do petty stuff like make people wait until they are about to fall off the ballot.
  15. The 10 year system has some merit because perceptions of player value and hall worthiness can change so much over time. I would like to see the stupid Veterans Committee changed. Just make it a secondary ballot for BBWAA members to keep things simple and congruent. The "Veterans Committee" can put forth the list of nominees for the secondary ballot and the writers vote on whether or not to let them in. The current committee process opens itself up to some silly inductions. I'd just like the writers to be able to consider players who have fallen off the ballot once it has been another ~10 years of whatever. Guys like Stieb and Lofton. Did everyone know that if Mike Trout dies before the 2020 season he would not be eligible for the hall of fame? "The player must have competed in ten seasons." Trouty is only at nine. Same qualification for the Veterans Committee. The Commissioner would have to appoint a special Trout committee or something like that.
  16. Likely the case.
  17. Such a quiet fall from grace for VV. I remember when he was hot s*** in 2016 with that 10.50 K rate. He still misses bats and he hasn't lost velocity but it just doesn't work as well as it could for some reason.
  18. Sprint speed is technically an average of their top end speed on the plays where you would expect them to be sprinting at max effort. It's an average of their highest speed on these plays: * Runs of two bases or more on non-homers, excluding being a runner on second base when an extra base hit happens * Home to first on “topped” or “weakly hit” balls. There is still a small hustle component to sprint speed. Statcast also measures "Bolts" which is any run of 30 ft/s or higher; Biggio had none of these in 2019. Some of the players around Biggio on Sprint Speed had multiple Bolts. Jarrod Dyson had 40 despite a 28.4 Sprint Speed. So Sprint Speed is not the players top speed, exactly. It's their top functional speed. I think Mookie would beat Biggio and Judge in a race, lol
  19. Aaron Judge is faster than Mookie Betts at top speed, lol. Betts probably has elite acceleration though. Betts ranks better if you sort by home to first times.
  20. Yeah a C with plus speed is incredibly rare.
  21. Jonn, hate to break it to you...
  22. Scouting reports are often wrong but them being wrong on his speed is pretty weird. It's the easiest tool to literally measure! A stopwatch! Biggio is just so f***ing smart. Baseball IQ off the charts. I bet he could play a plus LF/RF/1B and an adequate CF/3B.
  23. It depends on the sport. Things like tennis, golf, curling, soccer - not sure why but I find the women's games entertaining even if they would get destroyed by amateur men. But other sports the quality just isn't there. I could never watch professional women's hockey even if it is entertaining in the Olympics when Canada plays the USA. I guess it's not the fact that a Minor Midget AA team would beat them, the sport is just not as entertaining when women play it. I think baseball would be the same way. The WNBA is that way (haven't tried to watch it in forever though).
  24. For real. I mean they can have them for sale and wear them once or twice a year if they want but I wish they'd wear the whites and greys 95% of the time.
