  1. Andres Gimenez is not a legal add - we changed the prospect debut rules with the move to Fantrax and all the other league changes: I've dropped him to waivers now though so he is claimable.
  2. It does get too much s***. Some renovations like removing some seating and properly directing all seating towards home plate would go a long way.
  3. If there is a revolving door of Covid ILs all year long, maybe not.
  4. You know it won't be implemented well. Rob Manfred and Bud Selig announce every draft pick themselves. The opponent selection show will just be Rob Manfred in his basement pulling pictures out of envelopes. "With the first selection in the 2020 American League Playoff Opponent Draft the New York Yankees select... The Minnesota Twins *no applause or reaction*... The Houston Astros have the next selection and they are now on the clock *insert 47 commercials*" Also, the selection show is blacked out in 88% of Canada and you need to be a US resident of Florida to catch it on MLB Network.
  5. Tom Hatch breaking camp with the team, wow.
  6. Again, we see it implied in a report that MLB is being largely passive in this. I can't understand that incompetence. "Major League Baseball would certainly welcome it" --- are you kidding me, Manfred? You should be leading the problem solving charge.
  7. Probably has to be a state with a republican governor at this point. With a country and a state both saying no, there is a pretty strong precedent that other states will be hesitant to deviate from.
  8. I wonder if this was a silly training injury
  9. Very ironic that the Toronto Blue Jays, the team from the cleanest city of all MLB teams as far as Covid is concerned (if not the cleanest city then one of, and certainly the cleanest country) are the ones being put out by this. Really at this point this is an MLB problem and MLB needs to solve it. I'm hopeful they are involved - maybe they are leading the efforts - but the sense we are getting is that the Toronto organization is primarily trying to problem solve this. Why is Mark Shapiro talking about plans A, B, C, D, E, and F and we are hearing diddly s*** from the commissioner? What is MLB's plan B? Just let Toronto land wherever Shapiro can get them to land?
  10. Completely agree. Most teams don't ever get a realistic opportunity to lock in a true superstar like Mookie - that's a right acquired in the trade that is not captured by any normal surplus value calculation. The Red Sox look like a second rate organization now and their brand is tarnished. Bellinger and Betts is a potentially legendary tandem.
  11. You can be a diversity hire and be qualified. It's broadcasting, not sprocket science - there are hundreds of people who can call a baseball game so it is fair for a company to choose among qualified candidates based on their perception of audience preference. Her employers probably fairly think that there is some portion of their audience that reacts positively to having a woman in the booth. Lots of women and progressive men watch baseball. Women are infiltrating the game at every level, whether you like it or not buddy. She has also played at the highest comparable level of comparable sport that a woman can play at.
  12. She's not any worse than half the broadcasters in the league. I have always thought she was a solid broadcaster and pretty professional in the role. Broadcasters frequently get picked for reasons outside of their talent or merit - see the majority of broadcasters who are ex-players. Being said, I think she is good enough at the job to have the job. Sure, she is a diversity hire. I'd go so far as to say that calling Jessica Mendoza a bad broadcaster and stating that she was hired because of her gender is blatantly sexist.
  13. What is that supposed to mean?
  14. I was surprised to see him dropped. Then I didn't want to to use my waiver priority on him so I was surprised to see him pass through
  15. Lux has 28 days of service time. I guess the goal would be to keep him down for a couple of weeks so that at the end of 2020 he still is just shy of 1.000 Ruthless
  16. I don't really disagree.
  17. Maybe Toronto would actually have a competitive advantage playing out of a minor league stadium because the team is so young. Tell some crusty vet like Madison Bumgarner that he has to prepare and play out of Buffalo and he'll have a tantrum. Tell Nate Pearson or Bo Bichette that and it's just any other Wednesday, my dudes.
  18. Brian Johnson. Ryan Weber? Jhoulys Chacin just asked for his release from the Twins. Zack Godley. Hilariously bad. The O's might have a better set of arms. TORONTO MIGHT BE ABLE TO BEAT UP ON THESE CHUMPS AND POUND THEIR WAY TO A WILD CARD SPOT. LOTS OF GAMES AGAINST TRASH PITCHING.
  19. The NHL bubble is largely a one-time crossing; teams cross and then hunker down and bubble up (in theory). It's similar to what Toronto did for summer training this month, but at a much larger scale. The MLB plan really was not a bubble. It was different teams crossing from different US locations every series. It was Toronto flying out and back again numerous times. And all of these other US locations have different rules. Guaranteed in some of the US locations with lax rules players will be breaking whatever flimsy bubble rules MLB or the team have. I don't think reference to the daily border crossings is a fair criticism. As has been stated, this is mostly commercial traffic of the essential variety. We need essential workers and we need to eat. Nobody needs baseball in Toronto.
  20. Buffalo to New York is like a 6 hour drive. Dunedin to the Trop is nothing. Maybe Pittsburgh is the answer. Closer to Buffalo.
  21. Proximity, mainly. Dunedin gives them an actual training hub for the 60 man roster and the Trop is close to Dunedin.
  22. Entirely speculation but I think they'll work out some arrangements with several MLB teams, one of which will be the Rays. They can primarily train at Dunedin and play at the Trop. TB and TOR have 10 scheduled home games that would conflict: Aug 25-26-27 Sep 10-11-12-13; 25-26-27 Toronto would have to find an MLB team that is away on those 10 days and use their stadium. Yeah, Florida is a Covid mess but the team can just bubble hard. I dunno. Marlins are away on the August conflict dates and the final three September conflict dates. Braves are away on the first four September conflict dates.
  23. I'd like to see Fisher surprise too but I think there's a 90% chance he is just clueless and sucks.
  24. Grichuk McGuire Panik Romano Font Hatch Murphy Borucki should disappoint. People are expecting way too much based on the mirage of 2018. I expect Kay and Dolis to be contributors so I won't consider them possible surprises.
