  1. Let the market decide? Fine. Let's remove draft slot limits entirely, actually let's just make every amateur a free agent. No draft. And teams have no more cost controlled six years of a player. No salary suppression at all. Make it a real free market, top to bottom. I wonder how much the players would make... MLB is basically an intricate web of rules designed to suppress player salaries. The draft, international signing limits, league minimum and arbitration, luxury tax, draft pick penalties for free agent signings, legislation around minor league salaries... the game is rigged. Let the market decide he says.
  2. You probably get a match before you hit the 100th best asset. Maybe anywhere between 50 and 100. Buyer would need to be in a certain kind of situation though
  3. Having an MLB organization vouch for you and swear that you are one of the 50 most talented baseball prospects in the world would help a lot. Let's be honest, the USA only cares if the people they issue visas to can participate in the economy in a beneficial way. Hard to argue that an elite baseball prospect doesn't have huge economic upside.
  4. Well someone offered me one closer for Shane Bieber so yeah I know
  5. That's not what misnomer means but you're absolutely right. Sheryl Ring's opinion on this stuff means less than nothing, really. She also does not do this type of law as far as I can tell but is acting like this is all within her realm of expertise.
  6. Would love to acquire someone with both SS and 2B eligibility. Doesn't have to be a great player but needs to be clearly above replacement level. Just looking for insurance here, not someone I will be starting right away. Age doesn't matter. Can move breakout Rockie Connor Joe and/or one my lesser SP like Smyly or Kim. Would also be interested in an elite closer if there's one available. Would pay for that.
  7. Pretty sad situation. In Canada he would have like, no negative consequences at this point from a situation like that.
  8. Interesting. Thanks, cat butthole
  9. yeah i guess so cancel jack morris?
  10. I dunno. If he was trying to do an Elmer Fudd voice and didn't realize other people would think it sounded like he was doing a mockery of an Asian accent, then it's fine. I mean his explanation is accurate - he didn't intend to offend. If he was doing a mock Asian accent on purpose then yeah it's bad.
  11. Jim has presented the bull case on Biggio, connorp has presented the bear case. 2022 will tell. Maybe he's somewhere in the middle.
  12. Cost controlled players are great.... until guys like Gurriel and Biggio are taking up 25 man and 40 man roster spots while contributing 0.4 combined fWAR in 180 combined games. Then you wish you had packaged them up for a star. If the prospect pipeline works than you HAVE to be consolidating 40 man and pending 40 man players for upgrades.
  13. God dammit this 2021 team had the potential to be one of the all time entertaining / satisfying Blue Jays teams but my enjoyment of it has been utterly ruined by Montoyo and the relievers and the injuries.
  14. So just to get this in writing: Springer jumps into the outfield wall, appears to hurt his leg in a serious way. Does walk off the field. After the game Montoyo says publicly that it's just a sprained ankle and less serious than the team had feared. The next day Montoyo says he has a sprained knee actually and it being put in the IL and implies he may not return this season. Why is Charlie Montoyo even allowed to comment on player injuries?
  15. He was legitimately decent last year and it was reasonable this year to expect him to turn it around but at some point in the last, I dunno, month, the org needed to realize he's f***ed and cut bait. I don't know what they are even looking at anymore.
  16. Dolis has a BB/9 over 7.50 and his ERA and xFIP are both over 5. Why is he even on the team? lol Tommy Hatch is alive and in AAA. lmao what the f***
  17. It's actually similar to deals Cleveland has taken before. Remember, Clevinger for Austin Hedges, Josh Naylor, Cal Quantrill, Gabriel Arias, Owen Miller, and Joey Cantillo. Kluber for Delino DeSheilds and a reliever, Clase. The Kirk+Pearson package only looks flimsy in relation to the extremely frothy 2021 deadline deals. I do think the Kirk+Pearson package is fair. I could also see another team offering a better centrepiece though, of course.
  18. Not really. Those are some premium dudes, particularly Kirk and Pearson. I'm sure Cleveland covets Kirky.
  19. hahahahaha f*** this team is so bad with injury notes
  20. Yeah it is when the player you are bringing in as not expected to play every day. One more component is that they might want/prefer Smith to play every single day right now if they still see him as squarely within his developmental phase.
  21. Otto Lopez is already on the 40 and has been playing some CF this year. Helps if Springer needs time off. That's it, guys. Not a knock on Kevin Smith. Lopez' skill set is also more likely to immediately translate into something that is more than a replacement level player. Smith might have major MLB growing pains given his MiLB history.
