  1. Jamie Campbell's dream come true
  2. - walk rate at career norm - k rate good (best of career) - baserunning good - defense FINE by OAA (0) and DRS (-1). UZR hates him this year. - BABIP of .220 - wOBA .257 vs xwOBA .309 Lots of things under the hood look fine. The not so fine things are specific: - maxEV, hard hit rate, launch angle, pull rate all down so he's either gone over the cliff with his bat speed and the maxEV, hard hit rate, launch angle, pull rate will just never recover OR he's just going through some sort of timing issue that might at least be partly fixable the fact that the K rate is good makes me think it's not just a simple loss of bat speed and even if he is f***ed in terms of power, he is not presently playing like a player who should be replacement level. .309 wOBA with okay speed and close to avg defense could even approach 2 WAR over a full season. Whit Merrifield last year was .304 wOBA, 1.3 WAR in 592 PA with slightly negative D
  3. The Vlad trades are hilarious
  4. Buy low on Atkins. Extend him for 5 more years. $60,000 annual salary.
  5. The complete TNP bull thesis looks like this: - the core physical talents will shine through despite the poor record and run differential and this team therefore has a much better playoff chance than the websites say. also, a better chance to actually do something in the playoffs. - lots of money is coming off the books after 2025 and this is a top 10 payroll organization so with shrewd spending there is no reason they can't just remain competitive indefinitely - the problems on the farm are overstated and there may be enough talent in AAA alone to at least form part of the next core. - Ross's track record of quality MLB-level moves will help along the way.
  6. Yeah the idea probably came from some of the boring angry whiteys Maybe Matt Chapman who knows
  7. I was getting sick of the jacket too but in hindsight, it was never the issue. John Schneider's quote from back then is very cringe now. It was annoying seeing Gurriel and Teoscar bumble around on defense and then goof around with the jacket but that really had nothing to do with the jacket and everything to do with poor defensive skills. And I guess I can see why the brass may have thought that Vlad needed to mature, since he dropped 3 WAR from '21 to '22 while dancing with The Barrio all season long. But that was a flop too - thesis refuted by 2024 and the first quarter of 2024.
  8. I guess Ross read my post? The jacket is back and there is a red carpet too! fun fun fun baseball is supposed to be fun and entertaining
  9. Yeah I saw a red carpet rolled out after one of the homers this series
  10. s***** post from an even worse human being back to work!
  11. Jean Joseph in Dunedin is only 8 months older than Arjun Nimmala and is hitting: .268/.372/.465 20 games, 17 strikeouts and 10 walks, 3 homers! and 2 steals. his OPS is 15th out of 100 qualified FSL hitters one of only 5 hitters under 20 in the FSL with an OPS over .800 his 20 year old fellow outfielders Victor Arias and Yhoangel Aponte are also having interesting seasons, but the K rates are a bit of a concern
  12. I don't think that but I think there is no such thing as a minor lat injury and any injury of the arm/shoulder/neck increases the chance of a subsequent injury and/or could be sign or precursor for a bigger problem. The general point is just that he still has some stuff but he is a high injury risk player and a coinflip at actually providing any value to the team. Two years at high AAV = two expensive flips of the coin Three years at lower AAV = three slightly less expensive flips of the coin #logic #smart #genius #thankthispost #respect #moderator #topposter #funniestposteraward2019 #MVPosting #posteroftheyear #correct #objectivetruth
  13. First time seeing a reliever in his 30s try to return from major surgery?
  14. You're a bit premature I dunno. If he is good, team secures an extra year of control. If he has a lost season in 2024 and/or 2025 with random injuries (which is on track to happen...) team spreads out the money and therefore the risk and gets another flip of the coin on his talents in 2026.
  15. we live in a baseball fan nightmare I'd rather just be a Rockies fan then at least you could accept having no chance from game #1
  16. Bad contract is bad I think they ended up with the worst case scenario. I would have preferred the lower AAV over 3 years tbh.
  17. Mayza and Genesis Cabrera and Pearson are the real problems. TM Fastball gone. GC was bad before and is just bad again. NP can't show up with his velo and strike-throwing ability often enough to be useful. Romano and Swanson, velo looks fine and I bet they will at least be good rest of the year. Yimi has ascended. Richards looks fine. Pop is actually throwing well and might be an okay RP7. YRod and Francis would both have helium and upside in relief. Green I see as a wildcard. Not really sure. Injury risk seems so high. Stuff and results have varied.
  18. His what now I defended the SP depth hard and it looks like I am a genius because they recently pulled Cy Manoah out of AAA The bullpen WAS deep at the MLB level but no team absorbs the sudden decline, injury, or severe underperformance of 75% of their bullpen Position player depth remains sublime though. I feel so comfy with Horwitz et al. sitting there in AAA just in case Daniel Vogelbach gets the shits.
  19. why do you say ARO nobody else says ARO
  20. since when do you have a "job"
  21. The situation with the pen sucks, man. 2023 Jays relievers - 9th in fWAR, 8th in ERA, 12th in vFA (94.6) 2024 Jays relievers - 21st in vFA (94.4), 28th in ERA, 29th in fWAR If there is any lesson there^ it's that basic velo measurements should have at least hinted at the pen being just another normal middle of the pack bullpen. Swanson actually has a decent xFIP right now and his velo is the same, he may be able to just get over this. Possibly some random HR swings happening to him. Mayza on the other hand looks completely cooked and I don't understand why he is still throwing fastballs 70% of the time with 2mph gone. He should be 50% sliders. We can blame the front office for over-relying on Cabrera and Pearson I guess. Romano might have just mildly declined (fastball slightly worse) and some injury rust is making the effect of that even worse for now.
  22. Hard to criticize without knowing if the other options were even willing to sign here For all we know JDM was asking for $20M up until he capitulated and signed with the Mets and maybe Pederson never entertained Toronto
