    Even that is dumb In the divisional series the higher seed should just get 4 or 5 home games tbh so they actually have an advantage based on doing better in the regular season 5 games all at the home park of the higher seed. One off day after g3. Or, 1 game at the home park of the lower seed then 4 straight games of the higher seed at home. If I was in charge, the DS would look like that ^. 1 home game for the shittier team them 4 straight for the better team. And the WC round, the higher seed would only need to win 1 game to move on while the shittier team needs to win 2 in a row.

    why is fWAR wrong about Vlad's defense? he is a minus defender by all of OAA, UZR, and DRS. the numbers are however much worse under OAA. but fWAR uses UZR still, I think. it has only been dinging him for like -2 to -4 runs per year recently. not a big deal at all. there is not a big delta in 1B UZR either. the best only get like +4 runs. what is fWAR missing that is going to add so much to every year of Vlad's career? what is the specific gripe here?

    Yeah but they don't do the whole "flirting with replacement level" part very often, or ever. Vlad - times under 2 WAR (including 2020 where he projected to be under 2 WAR in a full season) = three Acuna - one (2024, major injury) Tatis - none Devers - three (the Vlad contract comp!) Freeman - two (ages 21 and 22) Seager - one (2018, major injury) Yordan - one (2020, major injury) Harper - one (2014, injury) So from that last it's really only Devers and Freeman who are remotely comparable. Vlad has some sad lows that most of these guys never have. Talking about being healthy and sucking.

    way too much typing happening about a mediocre result on a free agent signing Springer still does enough things well and at the end of the year I think the projection systems still liked him as a 2.3 WAR player going forward So it's not like these final two seasons even have a "bad" outlook all things considered it's just contextual disappointment that he didn't perform/produce in 2024 and 2023 as hoped. It might end up as one of those weird FA deals where the player is just okay the whole time, rather than really good on the front end and useless in the final years.

    This is pretty funny. IIRC the Braves took on almost exactly $25M in payroll commitments in order to acquire Kelenic. Horrible deal lol Maybe they win a playoff game if they never take that stinker

    It's possible but not likely. $55M or so to spend. Pay for one star bat. Pay less for another okay bat that performs like a good bat. (i.e. make a great signing) Pay for some backend RP help. Piece together the rest of the pen with analytics hurrrr durrrr Hope the SP stay healthy again lol Hope Bo bounces back and is that 2nd or 3rd star in the lineup Hope a couple of the glut of 2H/LF/DH types at the back of the roster develop well and are everyday players

    This is why a Vlad deal only makes sense if the AAV is at least close to his current final arbitration projection. Vlad for $30M or a bit more, fine. The upside is there in any given year so it makes sense to pay for the MVP potential. Vlad for more like $40M, insanity. The going rate for a good hitter on a pillow contract is around $20M, and that's if they are younger and interesting like Hoskins/Bellinger, the older guys are more like $12M or $14M, so like you said in any given year you could just get two of them. Or say, Joc Pederson + Lourdes Gurriel + Jack Flaherty (veteran on a 1 year deal, position player on a shorter term deal, and your favourite prove it SP or RP).

    Caleb Joseph had some good insight on this after the game on Sportsnet I think Alonso was just sitting changeup the whole PA and ended up getting a cookie of one in a 3-1 count
