    Look, im sure he’ll turn it around this year and put up good numbers. Im sure he’ll be good for the next couple seasons. However, im not confident that the last 10-8 years of the deal won’t be an absolute albatross that hinders the team spending throughout the next competitive window. There was no need to do this, they could have waited until the offseason to see his actual value and pivot if needed. Now we’re stuck with him, we bid against ourselves, and now we are committed to not selling at the deadline. This is a terrible terrible contract and easily the worst in baseball right now.

    Vlad is simply not a “generational hitter” and im tried of everyone pretending he is. He will be the most overpaid player of the next decade. I want nothing to do with him long term.

    Im sure the casuals will love it though! And surely they will buy more tickets now right? And they’ll continue to come even when the team sucks and has less payroll flexibility to improve the roster because we’re paying a 1B 40 million per year! Im sure they will still come to games!

    And funnily enough, I don't think it will be their fault. There's just no way they would give out that type of contract to a player like Vlad. They aren't stupid. This has transcended team president level, and is likely being handled by ownership at this point. Vladdy will be this franchise's big "Arte Moreno" moment.
