  1. In Toronto, maybe, but these things are quickly forgotten. Executives get poached all the time, in baseball and business in general.
  2. Why would he take a demotion to go to the Dodgers and become 3rd in command? With Friedman off the market, AA is poised to become one of the highest-paid GMs in baseball, and the best one available to a team with a vacancy.
  3. It's a bit of semantics, really. Dan Jennings was initially the Marlins GM this year. After they fired their manager, he became manager as well. On Oct 6, he was replaced as field manager. On Oct 29, he was fired as General Manager. On Oct 29, Anthopoulos officially turned down an extension from the Blue Jays, citing "the wrong fit." Regardless of title, there is an opening in the Marlins front office, and a connection between Anthopoulos and Loria (Expos).
  4. I also seriously doubt Mattingly would go there unless he knew Loria was bringing in a legit GM to turn around the franchise. It's been a couple years since the last Marlins firesale, so it's right about time for Loria to open up the wallet again. I'm guessing they throw down major contract offers to marquee FAs like they did in 2011.
  5. That remains to be seen. If he signs with the Marlins, then we know it was about the money; not principle.
  6. Did they, though? They fired their GM right before AA announced he wasn't returning to the Jays. They don't want to be accused of tampering, but I'd bet this deal was struck a couple weeks ago. Now they'll just allow for a mourning period before they announce.
  7. Contrived is a great word for it. I'm going to guess Nov 12.
  8. This is 1000% about the money. Even if working for Loria is a shitshow, AA would be set for life after a year or two and can probably command a guaranteed contract.
  9. And how much money will it be? My guess is $25M over 5 years.
  10. Grant is back as our full-time contrarian. Greenwood has settled in as a good poster!
  11. Really? I actually didn't know that. Trout should have won anyway, I'm just being contrarian.
  12. Was that reason the 14 intentional walks that Trout got to Donaldson's 0? If we're going to strip away Donaldson's RBI, because they're so context-dependent, then we should also examine the context of Trout's inflated OBP due to playing with a s***** lineup around him.
  13. I've met quite a few people from the board and none of them were as fat as AA.
  14. "At this time, we have no plans to make any big changes..." You can couch anything with 'at this time' and it won't be a lie later.
  15. Checked my Visa today, got my refund. Actually it was a lot bigger than I expected. I got back about 45% of these two payments I made on the playoff strip.
  16. We don't use AVG in this league so that's irrelevant.
  17. How many times has Trumbo hit 40 HR, again? 7? Oh no wait, that's Pujols.
  18. I would like to do an auction for 40 HR hitter Albert Pujols. Do we do that in this league?
  19. I actually totally agree with this. Signing a player to an extension coming off (what in all likelihood is) a career year seems like a great way to pay more than you have to. Didn't we do that with Wells?
  20. Tough to complain about locking in a megastar at approximately $5M/WAR. 21. Basically you're just paying him what he'd get in arb anyway, except by committing to it up front, we get the privilege of locking up his age 33-38 seasons @ $25M per, which will probably actually below well below market value by then.
  22. We all good with this? 23. Harold Reynolds says so, so it must be.
  24. Yeah, but Norris pretty much sucks.
  25. We were all very hot for the Jays to sign Bryant, but we also all knew it a huge longshot. A worthy risk, but in retrospect they should have tried to pony up more money.
