    Maybe. Or maybe it's easy to crush a grooved fastball when it's an average pitch and the rest of the arsenal isn't good or getting thrown for strikes. When you throw 98 with sick movement like Sanchez, no one sits on the curve, so sometimes s*** like that will happen. It's especially true with a geezer like Ortiz, who has to cheat to get around on a fastball that good. In Hutch's case, the fastball is 91-94 with little movement, and there's no plus breaking ball to worry about, so hitters sit dead red on him. At least that was the case this year. If Hutch's slider magically re-emerges, I think we'll suddenly find that his fastball is also much more effective.

    I disagree, this is why control and command are two different things. Locating your fastball on the edges of the plate is very much a skill. Granted, the ability to do so can very from year to year, and I expect Hutchison to be better in 2016 than 2015. He really did misplace/"groove" a lot of heaters this year and got pounded for it. But also, this is a byproduct of not having a breaking ball to keep hitters honest. In 2014 his slider was (at times) nasty, in 2015 in abandoned him. Maybe he was tipping pitches too.

    I don't think SRF really gets much attention outside of the Jays community. A full season of 6 BB/9 is pretty boner-killing.

    Your lack of enthusiasm is probably warranted given how little power he's shown and the fact that he really only hit this year. Still, his plate discipline is very impressive and he's ultra-athletic, so you can probably project a bit more power at maturity.

    I would bet he doesn't even get $70M. If he's holding out for $100M, he'll probably be the last guy to sign and take a 1 year deal.

Might as well shoot for the moon in this market. Chen produced a career-best 3.34 ERA, 1.218 WHIP, and 153/41 K/BB ratio across 191 1/3 innings this past season for the Orioles. Those are better numbers than right-hander Jeff Samardzija posted in 2015, and he just scored a five-year, $90 million free agent contract from the Giants. Chen is even a few months younger than Samardzija, and he's left-handed. St. Louis and Baltimore are known to have interest.

    These things are just snapshots. The farm looks dreadful beyond Alford, but we still have a group of talented young players with 5-6 years of control who recently graduated. Pompey would be a consensus Top 2 on this list, and Osuna has never faced an MLB hitter younger than him. There is an intriguing core in place beyond our mid-late prime vets. Alford really looks like he can be an impact top of the order hitter and CF.

    He can't hit and he doesn't walk at all. Really a headscratcher... surely the Reds could have gotten a sexier centrepiece for Frazier, who isn't even an impending FA.

    Either that or they think he can step in and quickly be a high-leverage reliever, which I would be okay with.
