  1. Contreras will for sure be the regular starter, but I could see them giving Schwarber the backup duties just to keep both bats in the lineup as much as possible. Montero is cuttable. I agree with BTS that the Cubs should trade him to an AL team, trying to work a guy with a totally reconstructed knee back in as a catcher seems like a disaster waiting to happen, and his range in the OF will be even worse than before. He needs to be a 1B/DH.
  2. He didn't play any games at C in 2015, so he will probably have to earn it with 5 starts. From 2 days ago: "I want to get back to that point where it's 50-50 on each side now and not 60-40," Schwarber, who is adamant about returning as a catcher and not as a full-time outfielder.
  3. Looking over that list, Posey is untouchable, so are probably Grandal, Lucroy, Contreras and Sanchez. Sal Perez has his warts but he's probably going to be the best catcher on the trade market, unless you think Wilson Ramos is going to recover faster than Marcus Stroman. I don't think most teams would be comfortable entering the season without rostering a catcher, I certainly wouldn't be.
  4. I disagree. Where he trails in OBP, he makes up for it in H and SLG. The 7 year age gap is also huge.
  5. Catcher is the new shortstop. Wilson Ramos is probably out for the entire 2017 season, Buster Posey only has an .800 OPS. Maybe time to recalibrate your expectations. Only 7 catchers reached 20 HR so far, although Sanchez probably will as well. Perez is clearly below Posey, Grandal, Lucroy, Sanchez, and Contreras, but after that you could make an argument for him. In a dynasty format I think he's more valuable than Martin, McCann, Wieters, and other dudes in that tier who are similarly flawed but significantly older.
  6. It was a down year for him in terms of AVG, which completely drives his OBP. He really tanked the last 2 months, before that he was running an .800+ OPS. Yost needs to find a way to keep him fresh down the stretch, it seems to be a recurring problem (1st half .345 wOBA, 2nd half .257). He's still a Top 10ish dynasty catcher. He's still only 26 and has back to back 20 HR seasons. I'm not expecting to get an all-star for him, I also don't mind keeping him and platooning him with Gattis if there isn't interest. Just a chip. If I package him with a dude like Adam Duvall or Felix Hernandez, I think I should be able to get a first division 3B.
  7. Do you start Sanchez the last day of the season against the Red Sox or skip him and get him ready for the wild card game? If we have home field for the wild card locked up, I think you definitely have to skip him.
  8. We have a Google Doc but nowhere to really post offseason trade blocks.
  9. I only trust catchers who don't catch.
  10. Didn't it take like 6 months to properly diagnose his last shoulder problem? No immediately obvious structural damage doesn't mean he'll be ready to go any time soon. Hopefully he got a cortisone shot today and he'll be able to tough out the rest of the season while producing somewhere near his normal level. Ugh.
  11. I'll trade you Chris Sale for him.
  12. I might consider moving Chris Sale, but only for a similarly elite bat. It would obviously have to be a need for need kinda thing, although I'm not opposed to adding other pieces as appropriate.
  13. Prince Fielder didn't die and also he was worthless from a fantasy perspective at the time of his unfortunate early retirement.
  14. There's an argument to be made for taking Seth Beer over Otani, but the way the rules are written, you can't take both. Beer looks like the next Kris Bryant to me.
  15. Just a hunch, but I'm guessing it won't be the same two prospects that Hurl picks.
  16. Because it's one thing to say "Eddy always drove the boat, he was Jose's driver," but if there were no witnesses and no survivors, you can't say for certainty who was driving at that moment. We don't know if Jose said "hey let me take the wheel for a couple minutes, I want to open it up and let off some steam." But really, why does it matter? I think it's just a means of assigning blame, which is pointless since they all died.
  17. Weren't the bodies recovered by divers? It sounds like the bodies smashed off the rocks but ended up in the water.
  18. It's not Happ's fault that Travis charged in and decided to get into a tussle. He could have kept his cool and hung around the periphery of the scrum.
  19. Those texts were pretty sad. I get that this dude was the regular and primary driver of the boat, probably like a DD for Jose. I'm just saying, no one witnessed the accident, we don't know who was definitely driving at the moment of impact. I don't think it really even matters.
