  1. You can't, really. Even if we give Hurl 3 1st round picks, his franchise is set back years. Just a s***** situation.
  2. TRADE BLOCK 1B Chris Carter 1B Adrian Gonzalez 2B Dee Gordon 3B Todd Frazier OF Carlos Beltran SP Drew Pomeranz SP Chris Tillman RP Sam Dyson RP Ryan Madson 1B A.J. Reed 1B Bobby Bradley SP Tyler Beede SP Carson Fulmer SP Forrest Whitley Looking for an upgrade at 2B and SP2
  3. And I think we can agree that it doesn't really get much bigger than Fernandez. Whatever this compensation is will pretty much constitute the upper limit. Hopefully we will never see another Top 10 dynasty asset die during the life of this league.
  4. IMO if any active player of keep quality dies, there should be some sort of compensation. If Mark Teixeira dies today, sorry, I don't think you're getting anything.
  5. I think we do need to compensate based on how good the player was, but there's no way to really codify that. Honestly these are pretty rare circumstances, this death in particular is unprecedented. Let's just arbitrate it on a case by case basis.
  6. I say give him Maitan and Otani as early exceptions and leave everything else the way it is.
  7. Congrats SG, the best team won. Even though I would have beaten you this week :'(
  8. Terrible song and classless/insensitive today
  9. Way to go RC crew, playing Let the Bodies Hit the Floor on the day of a major death.
  10. I don't even know how we can compensate for a loss this huge
  11. He was set to start today too, but his start got pushed back a day. It's probably fair to say if he hadn't been pushed back, he wouldn't have gone out last night.
  12. Taveras had potential, but Fernandez realized it. Just a devastating, irreplaceable loss.
  13. This is the greatest tragedy in baseball history.
  14. I've never wept for a baseball player before but this is just a punch in the gut
  15. This is so unfair. He could have been one of the greatest ever.
  16. Andy Slater of 940-AM WINZ reports that Jose Fernandez has been killed in a boating accident. Further details aren't available at this time, but the report has been confirmed by Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald. It's unfathomably tragic news. Fernandez turned just 24 at the end of July and, of course, had already been through plenty with what he experienced in defecting from Cuba. Our thoughts go out to Fernandez's family and the Marlins during this horrific tragedy.
  17. This really needs it's own thread as I sit and hope for it not to be true on the verge of tears.
  18. The book is out on Saunders: jam him inside and he can't do a goddamn thing about it.
  19. something up = Bautista is a terrible outfielder and Upton is slumping hard Pretty simple.
  20. It will be one of those two or possibly Mazara.
  21. Gross. I don't think I read past like #40.
  22. There's also no justification for putting Correa ahead of Corey Seager at this point. They're the same age and Seager has far better career numbers. Correa: .276/.355/.480, 128 wRC+ Seager: .320/.382/.531, 148 wRC+ Just absurd. Seager has a better career wRC+ than Goldschmidt, Bryant, Harper, Stanton, Ortiz, and McCutchen. Sure, you can say it's only been one full season (and a bit), but that makes it even more impressive, to be doing this so early in his career. Seager joins Nomar Garciaparra as the only rookie shortstops to ever hit .300 with 25 HR, 40 doubles, and 100 R. You can probably add 200 H to that club as well.
