I'm going to state for the record that I hope Silvergun will stay on board and continue to manage his excellent team.
However, that said, if his resignation is final, I would like to make a more radical proposal due to the exceptionally strong roster he has compiled (rather than transferring his team to a new owner). My proposal is a one-time dispersal draft, which would include all of SG's MLB and MiLB assets, as well as the assets of any other owners who are resigning at season's end, and the assets of any owners who wish to opt-in. That is to say, any owner who feels they could benefit from redrafting among the combined assets could choose to join; anyone who prefers to keep their current roster would decline to participate.
Pros
- We don't hand over the league's superpower roster to a new owner who has done nothing to earn it
- Much better for league parity (we balance SG's assets with those of the weaker teams)
- Owners who recently inherited bad teams, or who have backed themselves into a corner, will get an opportunity to hit reset and put their stamp on the team
- We add some much needed intrigue during a lull in the league's prestigious history
- All dispersal picks would be fully tradeable, so even if you don't opt in, you could have skin in the game
Cons
- We've never done it before
- None really
Now, having said all that, I personally would not choose to opt in, but I do think it would be the healthiest way forward for the league and much more interesting than just handing Silvergun's roster over to Adam Greenwood or whatever.
