Sad but true. AA's initial quotes on the deal could come back to haunt him. I remember him saying he called Miami & asked for josh Johnson. Johnson only had 1 year left, & was an injury risk. The marlins asked for some propsects, then the deal grew to include Reyes & Buerhle.
If the deal had stopped at Josh Johnson for whoever, AA would be stuck with an injured pitcher in 2013, who will probably be traded at the deadline.
AA wanted Bonificia & was very reluctant to give up Jeff Mathis. Bonifacio has been underwhelming & Jeff Mathis got hurt, but was otherwise a decent backup.
JPA has no serious competition for playing time , so he probably feels that he can get away with poor at bats. Did AA make a secret handshake deal with JPA to tell him he would get rid of TDarnaud, who would have competed with him this year for playing time or Josh Thole.
