Gomes is not a fantastic talent, but he's versatile, young, and controllable.
You can't just give keep giving up depth like this. We traded away SO much prospect depth for Happ and Lyon. Even if none of these guys amount to anything, they're still guys that could've made it and they make our system deeper.
Gomes is versatile. So is Aviles. We traded these guys for an absolutely atrocious RELIEF PITCHER
Think about how much better we'd be if you take away Maicer and Blanco and add in Aviles/Gomes. Maybe a few wins better? These terrible incremental moves add up and are not insignificant.
It was just a completely ridiculous and unncessary trade. We had a bunch of fringe starters who could've easily stepped in as solid relievers (i.e. Cecil), but AA just couldn't resist the thought of acquiring a boom or bust reliever.
Pathetic asset management. AA seriously could not have done a worse job over the last 1.5 years.
