  1. Lol unbelievable. There has to be a reason behind this. Not even tried to send him down through waivers to see if a team bites, just released. Means we're on the hook for a million too right? Must have caused clubhouse issues or something.
  2. I could have sworn we DFA'd him twice last year? But a quick google-Fu proves you are indeed right, not sure where I got that idea from sorry!
  3. Same can be said about Zeke. Smoak is just mind boggling, we are rostering 3 1B on the team with the 4th one being Bautista in emergency situations, if Pompey starts on the DL we're going to be carrying only 4 outfielders?
  4. Yeah that's what I think we'll get. If the org is dead set on not having him anymore then anything is welcome at this point. By the way, what's up with Pompey? Haven't followed the team closely this ST but he did well in the beginning and for Canada before his concussion, is he still injured ?
  5. True, I wonder if he would net anything useful. Maybe a BP piece, or a similarly-inconsistent outfielder for a change of scenery but even with his cheap salary I doubt we get anything of significance
  6. But the other player being cut would be Goins who, as history has shown, can be DFA'd without being claimed as he's done a few times before. So there's no risk on dropping someone that can be picked What's interesting to me is why now? Why wait until the end of ST? I'm guessing some teams have filtered their OF options by now and realize they might have a need for him? But I can't see him netting us more than another team's garbage... he would be fine if he has a platoon partner and he has good speed and decent defence off the bench. We don't have anyone other than Pillar who can naturally play CF... unless Pompey is set to be in the Upton role?
  7. We signed Chris Coghlan to a minor league deal... seemed to have a poor season last year but in 2015 he put up 3.3 war, why did no one else give him a chance? Did I miss an injury or something?
  8. I think lots of fans are quietly realizing they were wrong about Shapiro. The initial thought was he was gonna fire Gibbons and blow up the team and we're gonna become a penny pinching team that plays small ball exclusively... this is completely the opposite of what has happened. I don't think there was a better way of taking over an organization than what Shapiro did
  9. Even more odd is that he didn't manage an MLB team during his time away from the team, how often do you see a manager who's essentially one and done? Let alone come back to the team who hired him lol
  10. People on here need to stop evaluating managers as if they're players. IMO what's more important than being a good strategic coach is being one that can fully motivate a team, keeps people in line as well as prevent conflicts. Every man on the 25 man roster has more impact to a team's performance than a manager's strategic decision. I'd rather have Gibby than some guy who might lose the clubhouse but is able to put a good hit and run play on.
  11. Best part is you can cut open the guy and he'll bleed Blue Jay blue. I like having a manager who can stay long term with a team, stability is very important
  12. Hahahahahahahahaha
  13. f*** yeah!!! Hopefully we can pick up a ring for him, he has that Blue Jay passion oozing out of him
  14. Most of their system was garbage. TdA was not a bust however, his injuries caused his development to hit snags. Drabek same thing, he was solid for short periods of time but he's had 2 Tommy John surgeries and wasn't able to bounce back from either of them. Very good on AA to turn Taylor -> Wallace -> Gose -> Travis, the 3 before Travis are legit trash. In hindsight the trade wasn't so bad, injuries happen but we moved on
  15. Man this is exactly what I was talking about, I swear I always see the same posts about someone from MLB.tv support telling them it's gonna be blacked out!
  16. Think of IPTV like this: you're streaming channels online from a dude who has cable essentially. So it is channels it's not like searching links for events. For example I can get the SN channels, TSN channels, NBCSN, FOX Sports, MLB Network, BeIN Sports, NFL Network, Sky, and that's just some sports channels off the top of my head. Lots of local channels like CP24, CBC, CTV, City, movie channels like Sky Movies, Encore, HBO, and a bunch of other channels etc. Basically like cable but it doesn't guarantee constant uptime/smoothness, but this is comparable to a $80/month package + channels that you can't even get in Canada so worth it to me. Also in terms of it being a wash, it depends on how you look at it. IMO I'm getting much more content than you (like I mentioned it's like having the top of the line cable package + international channels), plus my internet package is much above average for internet speeds (Bell's Fiber-To-The-Home service is the best in Canada bar none) and I have unlimited usage so I don't worry about going over. HOWEVER I get that there is a degree of uncertainty with IPTV. I also know that there is a lot of people who don't have time and just want a solution that "just works" - and that's exactly why cable will always be around. If the extra ~$70 is negligible to you then your setup is definitely the best way to go about it. It's more of a "what rocks your boat" thing!
  17. Huh that's super interesting. PS4 app for me was very smooth, maybe crashes out once every 6 games but after restarting it's fine. Are you able to watch SN Now on PS4? That's the big advantage of MLB.tv, it supports more devices
  18. Well damn. Let me break down the situation at our household (between me and my parents): No home phone No cable Bell Fibe 50 down + Unlimted download ($70/month) IPTV channels (Canadian, American, Sports & Middle Eastern channels; 95% not HD): $15 MLB.tv: $8-10/month ($100 or $120 for the year I don't remember) Netflix: $10/month VPN: $4/month ($50 for the year) So that's like $110/month? Also yes MLB.tv depending on your speed can get 1080p HD at 60 frames per second so it's silky smooth (smoother than cable channels)
  19. Huh that's odd. I would like to say that that's because SN Now had less "moving pieces"; it's a player that takes the live feed from SN. MLB.tv has multiple streams, has the gameday overlay, has to fetch ads to show you between innings, I could definitely see some machines having issues with MLB.tv actually, understandably it requires more to get going. Thankfully I haven't had any!
  20. Not sure if this is satire or not, but SN Now has been meh all around but MLB.tv is a charm. Never been disconnected, game keeps going even if I had a speed drop by adjusting quality to my bandwidth, home/away and radio overlay feeds, the option to get the direct stream where the game feed is actually ahead of cable, 60fps, and a MUCH better phone app (SN Now is garbage on the app). The only issue I can find with MLB.tv if there is blackouts is being unable to see the stream, it doesn't go by internet IP only but also GPS location. If you have an android it's fine, you can spoof the GPS easily but iPhone you need a jailbreak to do that so I might be out of luck with that. Still for people without cable it's much cheaper to go MPB.tv + VPN
  21. I haven't tried to be honest, but yeah I think Netflix is going by the billing address or some other means to deter the use of VPN
  22. Yeah, I'll post the VPN I use since I've had a very positive experience with them: Private Internet Access. Access to loads of different countries around the world and I don't notice a significant speed drop, even when connecting to European servers. It's like $40 USD a year which is around $55 CAD and you can pay with Paypal to avoid paying exchange fees, etc. Also supports lots of devices, I have it on my iPhone too.
  23. Eh, they say this every year, I'd wait and see. Plus worst comes to worse you can get a fast VPN for less than $50 for the whole year and it will still be cheaper than cable or getting the s***** SN Now
