I could have sworn I had a post in here that was deleted? What is there really to discuss about him this early right now? His performance should hold it's just a matter of health. Obviously if has a great year and his back isn't a chronic issue we should try to retain him, especially since there's no more FA compensation and how expensive good starters are

I ran a quick Google search, is the difference between the two death that was inevitable (ex. someone who was in a coma that died) passing away vs. dying on impact/immediately like this accident? I was always under the impression "passing away" is a more tame way of saying "died" -

There were reports that he was approached by multiple teams and he did say in his presser that there were talks between the O's and his agent so idk why you would think that's BS. Zwelling pointed something out that Bautista might have come to the realization that staying in Toronto would be his best bet because he's invested in his brand in Canada and Toronto specifically. You can still walk downtown and see Booster Juice billboards with his face on it. Theres no other market that would help him keep growing his brand at this stage of his career, with this much reach, than being a Blue Jay. I think there's some merit to that

Because most of the season Bautista would hit a hard grounder and not hustle to first in fear of an injury. Obviously that's different than sprinting in the OF, the consequences of not running is not making an out. The consequence for not hustling on a ground ball is not capitlizing on an error if a ball is dropped/not made, hence why in your initial post you mentioned that they think it's inaccurate, not hustling to 1st vs. not sprinting in the OF are two different things

Damn I don't get this contract at all? Maybe Atkins wanted him for 18.5M max on a one year deal and Bautista/Alou were petty enough to draw out an insane and pretty pointless contract. Just for shits and giggles. Like Atkins offered 1 year/18.5M and Bautista negotiated for X amount of time to add all this other confusing BS when I'm sure he'll be a free agent after pocketing 18.5M lol The only thing that maybe kinda makes some sense is the attendance bonuses... maybe? The argument that Bautista is more than just a player who can give you solid power hitting but also draws crowds? Bautista maybe is going to take over the marketing gig too??? Lol Also wtf is this the first contact ever to have a vesting option following an option???? So basically to vest 2019 he's going to need to both have his mutual option exercised and miss max 24 games across 2 seasons (DH?)

True but it's weird that way, imo I don't think Bautista will pick that option up if he has a season better than last season and the Jays probably won't pick it up if he has a season like last season... who knows
