It's not about Nolin deserving the spot, because an argument could be made for a bunch of guys. But from my perspective it's about youth, financial flexibility, results and make a determination on whether Nolin is in the future plans. He's already past the relevant age for me, but as a #5 to be used as a buffer who cares. The Jays pushed their payroll close to the brink this year and still aren't a contender. The team is an old team and isn't getting better. So using Nolin as a #5 to eat a bunch of innings at LG MIN is my optimal suggestion. Then Sanchez as our #5 next year and Nolin could be moved to the 4 slot if he's shown promise, or into LOOGY role, long man out of the 'pen or traded.
Rogers is what he is. He's a 28 year old #5 at best. His numbers away from Coors & Rogers Centre aren't good. His numbers split as a SP or RP aren't good. I'm not sure what you're expecting from him.
