  1. The Jays could put a statue of you in the RC bleachers and a hidden speaker with chants of "Yankees suck farts" being played.
  2. I never looked up to athletes as role models. I appreciated their talents and emulated their swings or how they pitched, but my parents were always my role models.
  3. I'd rather have Alomar either with the double arms up after taking Eckersley deep, or having him in a full out dive making a catch.
  4. I can't think of a reason why a "baseball fan" would stop watching baseball or their team. Aside from going blind, or drastic changes to the actual game.
  5. It isn't feasible, but I'd love to see a stadium put back on the island.
  6. I agree, it's Rogers team and they can do what they want. But they can't expect everyone to believe the stuff they spew at SOTF, unless Rogers is pushing them to spin being a "contender" and "playoffs" when clearly they haven't been and aren't even close.
  7. I'd have Fernandez over Jimmy Key. The Jays could also honour Tom Cheek with a statue, similar to what the Tigers did with Ernie Harwell.
  8. On merit Halladay & Stieb. (along with Alomar) Even player recognition type things like plaques embedded in the concrete in CF just above where White made "the catch". Or where Carter's home run landed. Give the fans some focal points around the park appreciating the great players or moments in Jays history. It's best also not to over do it, otherwise it becomes too much. St. Louis & Cleveland are examples of that.
  9. If that's your stance, along with the stance on an owner dictating the direction. Wouldn't you lay a huge amount of blame then on ownership for only going half way? They made two trades that strengthened the 25 man roster but not to the point of being classed a dynamite team and weakened the farm, but could have gone further like the Tigers do running with absolutely no farm and everything goes into the 25 man?
  10. No, but Dickey would be....again.
  11. Why in every scenario to get to the 100 loss mark by not making those trades look solely at the team of players we had with no other moves? And why isn't having arguably the best farm in baseball by not making those trades get mentioned?
  12. It's funny going to other parks and seeing them pay tribute to ex-players with statue's in and around the stadium. Then you come to Toronto and they have a lone statue of Ted Rogers outside.
  13. I guess it depends on the person. I've never actually quit a team that was losing or bad, but I've had people on teams who did. Reasons I've left teams. *The team was too good and pretty much didn't try against other teams. Hitting bombs and stopping at 1b every AB *On a co-ed team, women on the team collectively said they would not condone "violence" from our players defending a teammate of ours from assault from another team's player. Had to listen to that yakking for way too long. *Just left a team due to non-committed players who can't decide whether they're wanna play or do other things in life and call at the last minute leaving the team short players.
  14. 100 losses is possible from any team in any season. I realized I don't need it.
  15. I still find it sad when people who refer to themselves as a particular sports fan will stop watching or going to games if their team loses. It would be similar to the fact that if that same person/"fan" played organized sports, be it baseball, hockey, football, basketball and because the team they played on lost they stopped playing because they didn't like losing. IMO you either love something or you don't. And if you say you love it and walk away at the first hint of losing, you're not a fan. In reading what you just wrote there, it reinforces my thoughts of the Jays doing what the Leafs use to do in the 80's & 90's. Load the team up with name players (has-beens) who the fans can associate and love based on past performance. And ownership being content not to be the worst, but never good enough to make a run to the final. And having the names on the field to make it appear they're fielding a quality team and the names fans remember from the past drawing them to the park and the TV being the ultimate reason for carrying on. Yep. The same could be said for Philadelphia's owners and RAJ
  16. Losing 100 games isn't easy. And we weren't even close to that, prior to the Marlins or Dickey deal.
  17. I agree there's no guarantee of a rebound. But if I was to choose an asset between Kelly as say a RP the rest of his career or John Lackey in his later 30's starting and I'll take Kelly easily.
  18. Um, I liked to ride my bike. I liked playing table hockey. George Bell was my favourite Blue Jay. The Edmonton Oilers were my favourite hockey team. If I think of anything else I'll let you know. And there are no felonies in Canada.
  19. Can you be the one to provide me with therapy? And when the session's done let me lick your index finger?
  20. Seeing as your the man trying to make the world a better place, I'm surprised you didn't attempt to contact Bautista or Janssen and set them straight. Let them know how things should be. Sorry dude, no felonies in Canada.
  21. I'd easily take a chance on Craig returning to form. You know kinda how everyone wrote off Lackey after he was shellacked and lost all his velocity and stuff in 2011? Adam Dunn was another who had a historically bad season and was said to be done on this forum. Yet came back. As for Kelly, at worst can be a solid pen piece for years to come for a 36 year old John Lackey. Sorry not a fan of old players.
  22. The Jays cannot continue to operate as they have by moving excessive amounts of cheap talent for over-priced vets. In order for the Jays to maintain a large casual following I agree, they need to bring in big names. Geographically and numerically The City and Country for the Jays are a big market. I don't believe ownership will ever pump enough payroll into the team for them to be considered a legitimate big market payroll. But the fanbase is decades away from being a big market baseball fanbase, which IMO prevents the Blue Jays from being a big market team.
